BLOOD upon the tip of his right ear! BLOOD upon the thumb of his right hand! BLOOD upon the great toe of his right foot.
*************
In my reading of the Bible, the Word of the Living God, I have arrived at book number three of the Bible, the book of Leviticus. It has 27 chapters. It is all about the Levites, the priests of God. At the beginning of the year I started at Genesis 1:1. Genesis means “beginnings”.
Today I read Leviticus 14:14: “The priest is to take some of the blood of the guilt offering and put it on the lobe of the right ear of the one to be cleansed, on the thumb of his right hand and on the big toe of his right foot.” (Leviticus 8:23)
What is the meaning of that?
I remember a book by D. L. Moody on my book shelf explaining that verse. But I cannot remember when I heard a sermon from the book of Leviticus. Do you remember? If so, please let me know. It is a widely neglected book.
The book by Dwight Liman Moody is called: “Sovereign Grace”. D. L. Moody lived from 1837-1899. He is called the ‘prince’ of the Evangelists. D. L. Moody had his own school and even Abraham Lincoln came one day to be a listener in the school of Mr. Moody. The school was so famous. Abraham Lincoln became president of America in 1860.
The book “Sovereign Grace” by D. L. Moody is a very, very old book. I cannot find the date when it was printed in the book. I remember finding it in a second hand shop (Kawakawa?). I bought it for exactly 5o cents. It says so in the book. The name of one owner is also written in the book and Kawakawa (Name of a place). I have said it before and I am saying it again: It seems to be that I pick up my best books in second hand shops for almost nothing.
Leviticus 8:23 “Moses slaughtered the ram and took some of its blood and put it on the lobe of Aaron’s right ear, on the thumb of his right hand and on the big toe of his right foot.” Read also Leviticus 14:14!
D. L. Moody asks the question: “What does it man?” He admits that that was another verse he used to stumble over.
— Blood on the ear. — Blood on the hand. — Blood on the foot.
But in the book he says that he now understands.
— Blood on the EAR.
Without it we cannot hear the voice of God.
— Blood on the HAND.
That we may work for God. Moody says, “No man or woman can do anything to please God until they have believed on his Son.”
— Blood on the FOOT.
To walk with God. Moody again, “God never walked with the Israelites until the blood was sprinkled in Goshem.”
