QUIET TIME

OUR QUIET TIME

Students at the Bible College I went to in Germany were obligated to keep the QUIET TIME every morning. If we did not for one reason or another we had to write NO on the sheet of paper provided and that paper had to be handed in at the office.

What is the purpose of the Quiet Time?

In his book ONE HUNDRED BIBLE LESSONS Alban Douglas gives two.

Fellowship with God is the basic purpose of the Quiet Time he says. He writes, that God desires this communion even more than we do. He writes on page 153 in his book:

“I’VE OBSERVED HOW LOVERS LIKE TO BE TOGETHER. ‘I’M IN LOVE WITH THE LOVER OF MY SOUL.'”

He continues to say that the second purpose might be strength for the day. He quotes Ephesians 6:12, “For we struggle not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities,…”, and says that the life of a Christian is a battle. Against what? Against sin. Against the world. Against the devil.

“D. E. Hoste said that they never knew which candidates that arrived in the Mission field would do well in the years to come, for it all depended on how well they guarded the Quiet Time.” – Alban Douglas.
