This afternoon I read a book that is really in tatters, the spine is broken and someone has ripped out the pictures and I am surprised that it is still in one piece and that I picked it up at all.
It is the book called PRECIOUS THINGS OF THE LASTING HILLS by Isobel Kuhn with a foreword by Mildred Cable. It is a CHINA INLAND MISSION BOOK. It was first printed before I was born. In the book I found the following quote by Oswald Chambers:
“To go the second mile means to do always your duty, and a great deal more than your duty, in the spirit of loving devotion that does not even know it had done its duty.”
But how glad I am that I picked it up and read the 79 pages. When I finished reading the last chapter, chapter five, I was really moved and almost in tears.
I think the book is so worn out because it has had many readers. I think I will read it again!
