“How to get heard,” it says on the front panel of the leaflet from the Mental Health Foundation I picked up at the healthy lifestyle hui (meeting) not long ago.
I am reading that it can be really very difficult for children to talk to their parents and other people they live with about the hard things. And what are the hard things? The following are listed: sex, drugs, trouble with the police, bad reports and exam results, bullying, feeling bad about themselves and violence.
They are told what to do getting heard by their parents. Reasons are also given why things might not work. They are also told about agencies they can contact if they have problems communicating with father and mother, agencies like Youthline, Family Planning Association and Citizens Advice Bureau. Contact details are given of course on the back panel. Additional information is also included on the back panel of the leaflet.
Not only our young people have hard things to deal with, all of us have. All of us want to get heard, want to talk to someone about our worries.
Children might have difficulties communicating with their parents, but nobody has difficulties talking to God, our creator. He is always willing and waiting to hear from anyone of us anywhere, anytime and anyhow.
