I find that lately I am increasingly reading about our identity.

Who are we? That is the question. We must understand our identity, I am told. What does it mean to understand who we are? That is also a question we must consider.

But I find also that I have no problems with my identity. I know who I am. I know also what I am.

I believe also that I would not write this post, if I would not have read the following this morning in the book of ROMANS by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones. (Exposition of chapter 1, The Gospel of God)

D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones writes that right at the beginning of his letter to the Romans the Apostle says WHO HE IS and WHAT HE IS:

HE IS A SERVANT OF JESUS CHRIST.

That is how he describes himself. That is the most important thing about him. The Lord Jesus Christ is the centre of his life.

He gives us also the complete doctrine about this person.

JESUS

The babe of Bethlehem, the boy, the man, the carpenter.

CHRIST

The meaning of “the Christ” is the anointed one. God anointed the Lord Jesus Christ to do a particular work.

The Apostle is the apostle Paul of course.

At the beginning I said that I know who I am and what I am. I know that I am a sinner saved by the grace of God. In Paul’s letter to the Romans we read, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23) Read also what it says in Ephesians 2:8.
