THE WORLD

This is what the BIBLE says about the world.

The Bible says not to love the world. That includes anything that is in it. Also loving the world excludes loving God the Father.

In 1 John 2:15-17 (The Amplified Bible), we are told about three things in the world.

  1. “Lust of the flesh [craving for sensual gratification].”
  2. “Lust of the eyes [greedy longings of the mind].”
  3. “Pride of life [assurance in one’s own resources or in the stability of earthly things].”

Why are we as followers  of the Lord Jesus Christ commanded not to love the world? The answer is that the world is passing away, but people who do God’s will have eternal life.”

LIFE TO THE FULL

At the beach.

What it says about the Bereans in the Bible makes me really glad.

“Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they … examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true,” we read in Acts 17:11.

Just now I am reading in a Christian publication that considering the opportunity for positive change reminds the writer of John 10:10, where it says, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” He continues to say that it is all about people realising their full potential, people living full lives, people living positive lives, people living happy lives.

Thinking about all that makes me look up some of my devotional treasuries, my commentaries and finally I remember also the devotional treasury called UNTO THE HILLS by Billy Graham. Looking up what he says about John 10:10, I find that his first sentence is: “ONLY THOSE  WHO HAVE BEEN CONVERTED TO JESUS CHRIST KNOW THE MEANING OF ABUNDANT LIVING.”

The Bereans examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. If they did that with the Apostle Paul, how much more must we do that with everybody else?

Am I glad about what Billy Graham says about John 10:10, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
