“Witnesses sought”, it says under “IN BRIEF” in our local paper.
“Witnesses Wanted”, is of course the message of the Bible. We find The Great Commission at the end of the Gospel of Matthew and there the Lord Jesus Christ says to “Go and make disciples of all nations”, …” That is Matthew 28:19. Acts 1:8 says, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, …”
Personal Evangelism (PE) was one of the subjects taught at the Bible school I went to in Germany.
The greatest Personal Worker I have ever met was “Uncle Ernie”. He was a rare ‘original’.)
Ernest Klassen, that was his real name, was teacher and business manager at the Bible school I trained to be a missionary in Germany.
I have here two slender volumes, one written by Ernie Klassen and the other compiled by him. In one of the little booklets he writes:
“I was witnessing in a drug store and said, ‘I’ve looked over all your shelves and I see you have things for the head, feet, stomach, and heart. But I didn’t see anything for the soul. You are fortunate – I have something with me for you’, and handed him a tract.”
While we were working in Kaikohe as missionaries (United Maori Mission), Mr. Klassen came to visit us. You can read about that in the book “MEIN VATER ERNIE KLASSEN” written by his daughter Heather H. Ewald on page 164.
I remember taking him to Waitangi. While stopping there for a cup of coffee, he was more interested in witnessing to the waitress than drinking his coffee.
“Witnesses Wanted”.
Who are the best witnesses for the Lord Jesus Christ that the world has ever known?
D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones answers the question in one of his five sermons on Romans 8:16 in his book called “ROMANS, The Sons of God, Exposition of Chapter 8:5-17”.
In Romans 8:16 we read: “The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children”.
He writes, “The best witnesses of the Lord Jesus Christ that the world has ever known have always been men who had full assurance, and the consequent enjoyment of that fulness and certainty, …” He says also, “…, for as long as we are uncertain we shall to that extent be poor witnesses”.
I add to that, that all those who don’t have full assurance lead also a fickle life.
