Not long ago I bought an electric shaver. As you can imagine with the shaver I received also a manual, a little booklet of instructions.
“Warnings,” it says almost at the beginning of the instructions, and I am also told to read the instructions completely, because they contain safety information, and not to throw them away.
There are also three tips for a perfect dry shave. And I am glad, I read the tips.
Also recently I picked up three leaflets from a church office.
Leaflet number ONE has information for people who are struggling with debt.
Leaflet number TWO tells me about help for people who have an alcohol problem or a problem with other drugs.
Leaflet number THREE offers a programme to get people into the work force.
The Bible is our guidebook, our handbook for life, our chart and compass. And I looked up what our manual says about DEBT, ALCOHOL AND DRUGS and WORK.
DEBT: Romans 13:8
“LET NO DEBT REMAIN OUTSTANDING, …”
ALCOHOL: First Corinthians 6:19 and 20
“DO YOU NOT KNOW THAT YOUR BODY IS A TEMPLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, …?” “THEREFORE HONOR GOD WITH YOUR BODY.”
WORK: Second Thessalonians 3:10
“IF A MAN WILL NOT WORK, HE SHALL NOT EAT.'”
But “Warnings” again.
The Bible, the Word of God, is only alive for those, who are born again.
Do you have a living relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ?
