“YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT”

“YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT.”

“YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT,” it says in a recent column in our local newspaper written by a GP. (General Practitioner)

We don’t need to be reminded to feed our bodies, but we need to be reminded to feed our souls. What does the Lord Jesus Christ say in Matthew 4:4, when he was tempted by the devil? He said, “Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”

There is Physical food and there is Spiritual food.

Once more, we hear a lot about physical food, but not enough about spiritual food.

The Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross to redeem the soul of man. And in Matthew 10:28 it says, “Do not be afraid of those who kill the body, but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.”

Can I encourage you to be more interested in spiritual food, than in food for the body?

SPIRITUAL FOOD

In abundance it is prepared for the believer. Please read Matthew 22:4.

The Lord Jesus Christ is the bread of Life. Please read John 6:35

When we are saying that we are what we eat, we are not only thinking about the food for our bodies, but also about the food for our souls.

“YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT.”

SECOND CHANCE

Image

“A second chance,” I am reading in a handbook  of Christian belief and I know that I am actually finding what I am looking for. The handbook is called KNOW THE TRUTH and is written by Bruce Milne. The foreword is written by J. I. Packer.

Seen in Mangonui last Tuesday.

I am still thinking about the sign “2nd chance” I saw this morning in Mangonui. Also while reading the local paper there, The Northland Age, I read in a column about “a second chance for young people.” It was a Maxim Institute column.

In the handbook of Christian belief it says that “The idea of a ‘second chance’ to respond to the Gospel during the intermediate state is often incorporated in some statements of universalism.” In the handbook it says also that “There is no biblical foundation for this view.”

Please read Hebrews 9:27 and Luke 16:19-31.

Hebrews 9:27 says:

“JUST AS MAN IS DESTINED TO DIE ONCE, AND AFTER THAT TO FACE JUDGMENT, …”

FATHER’S DAY 2018

Image

We celebrate Father’s Day on 2 September.

About fathers in the faith, about spiritual fathers, we read in the Bible in First Corinthians 4:15:

“FOR EVEN IF YOU HAD TEN THOUSAND OTHERS TO TEACH YOU ABOUT CHRIST, YOU HAVE ONLY ONE SPIRITUAL FATHER,” writes the Apostle Paul. (New Living Translation)

“My dad can fix anything.”

Who are the spiritual fathers and where are they?

They are the men of God who have something what we also long to have. They are men of spiritual maturity. They are men who display the life of Christ and inspire us to do the same. They are the men who remodel the Lord Jesus Christ.

In First Corinthians 11:1 the Apostle Paul writes: “Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.”

Today the world is desperate for spiritual fathers. Do you have a spiritual father in your life?

“‘YOU DO NOT WANT TO LEAVE TOO, DO YOU?’ JESUS ASKED THE TWELVE. SIMON PETER ANSWERED HIM, ‘LORD, TO WHOM SHALL WE GO? YOU HAVE THE WORDS OF ETERNAL LIFE.'” – John 6:67,68

“I SUGGEST THAT WE CAN NEVER TRULY UNDERSTAND WHY IT IS THAT THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, THE ETERNAL SON OF GOD, HAD TO COME INTO THE WORLD UNLESS WE UNDERSTAND THIS DOCTRINE OF THE WRATH OF GOD AND THE JUDGMENT OF GOD.” – D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
