“We are not trying to please men but God, who tests our hearts,” (1 Thessalonians 2:4) I am reading in a Devotional Treasury called “Knowing and Doing the Will of God”, by J. I. Packer, (August 9) and I am reminded of what I heard in Church last Sunday.
It was in an airplane and a passenger observed a stewardess who had to deal with another passenger, who was really awkward. But she did it unflappable and the observing passenger was so impressed that he went to her at a convenient time and told her that he wanted to commend her to the airline for her exceptional service.
And do you know what the answer of the air hostess was? She said something like this, “I want to tell you something, and listen carefully. I am not working for the airline, I am working for the Lord Jesus Christ.”
“We are not trying to please men but God, who tests our hearts.” Is that not a challenge?
J. I. Packer writes in the Devotional, “Equally important is the truth that every Christian’s full-time employment must be to please God.”
