“BEST BOOK I’VE READ AND WHY?”

“Best book I’ve read and why?” is one of the questions I found in the box. I discovered the little box on a table in one of the restaurants in Mangonui on my last trip to that place.

THE NORTHLAND AGE, Thursday, August 9, 2018

“TABLE TALKERS” was written on the lid of the box and on the bottom of the box I read the following, “Find out the answers to 46 revealing questions in the box and get to know your friends and family a lot better at your next social occasion.

I’ve just read a real page turner, but when it comes to tell you about the best book I have ever read and still reading mostly every day, I can tell you straight away that it is the Bible. I don’t even need to think about it even for a moment.

There are many reasons of course why I think that it is the best book, and there is also a main reason.

  • If we are looking for knowledge of God, we find it in the Bible.
  • If we are looking for divine truth, we find it in the Bible.
  • If we are looking for everlasting life, we find it in the Bible.

The author of the BIBLE is the HOLY SPIRIT. For most people the Bible is like any other book, but for those who are born again, the Bible us alive.

And here is the main reason why I think the Bible is the best book I have ever read: In the Gospel of Mark chapter 13:31 it says:

“HEAVEN AND EARTH WILL PASS AWAY, BUT MY WORDS WILL NEVER PASS AWAY.”

I surely like the “Table Talkers,” because it is not only that I get to know my friends and family a whole lot better, but they are getting to know me a whole lot better as well, they are getting to know that I am a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Praise the LORD!

TRUTH

Image

WE ARE NOT FAR FROM THE BEACHES: And I love all of them.

“What is truth?” asked Pilate the Lord Jesus Christ. You find that in the Bible in the Gospel according to John, chapter 18:38.

In his editorial today, “Drifting from the truth,” the editor of our local paper, The Northland Age, is quoting George Orwell, who lived from 1903-1950, and said, “The further a society drifts from the truth, the more it will hate those who speak it,” and then he adds, “And hasn’t that come true in New Zealand in 2018?”

What is truth?

In John 14:6 the Lord Jesus Christ says that He is not only the truth, but also the way and the life.

Are you a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ?

WHAT A CHALLENGE

Image

“We are not trying to please men but God, who tests our hearts,” (1 Thessalonians 2:4) I am reading in a Devotional Treasury called “Knowing and Doing the Will of God”, by J. I. Packer, (August 9) and I am reminded of what I heard in Church last Sunday.

It was in an airplane and a passenger observed a stewardess who had to deal with another passenger, who was really awkward. But she did it unflappable and the observing passenger was so impressed that he went to her at a convenient time and told her that he wanted to commend her to the airline for her exceptional service.

AIRPLANES: What a convenient way to go from place to place.

And do you know what the answer of the air hostess was? She said something like this, “I want to tell you something, and listen carefully. I am not working for the airline, I am working for the Lord Jesus Christ.”

“We are not trying to please men but God, who tests our hearts.” Is that not a challenge?

J. I. Packer writes in the Devotional, “Equally important is the truth that every Christian’s full-time employment must be to please God.”

THE INTERNET

Image

“You’re not connected,” it says on my computer screen. That is actually quite sad. But I am rejoicing that the Bible tells me that I am connected to the Lord Jesus Christ.

What must we do to get connected to the Lord Jesus Christ? But first of all let us answer another question, namely:

You find the Internet in Kaitaia on Commerce Street.

WHAT IS THE GOSPEL?

  1. To have fellowship with Him, that’s why God created us.
  2. But our sins separate us from our creator.
  3. By our good deeds we cannot remove sin.
  4. The Lord Jesus Christ paid the price for sin. That’s why He died and rose again.
  5. What must we do, to have eternal life? We must trust in Him.
  6. Life with our Lord Jesus Christ starts now and lasts for ever.

In order to get connected to the Lord Jesus Christ, we must trust him.

Whether we are connected to the Internet or not, does not really matter at the end of the day. But what matters is whether we are connected to the Lord Jesus Christ. It matters not only for this life, but also for eternity.

Are you connected to the Lord Jesus Christ?

Quote

“Whereas the world finds that its idea of freedom as throwing off all external constraints leads only to restless and disillusioned bitterness, Christians  know in their bondservice to their Redeemer inward joy, peace and contentment.” –  J. I. Packer
