The Person who Inspires me Most

Image

“The person who inspires you most and why?” is one of the questions in the “Table Talkers” box. If you have read previous posts you probably remember the “Table Talkers” box. On the box is written, “Find out the answers to 46 revealing questions in this box and get to know your friends and family a whole lot better at your next social occasion.”

Someone took me to hear D. M. Lloyd-Jones at Westminster Chapel while I stayed in London from May to September 1963 at the headquarters of a Missionary Society (WEC International). That is more than 50 years ago! At that time I did not know that Dr Lloyd-Jones would one day be the person who inspires me most.

It was on a visit to Whangarei while working in Kaikohe as a missionary (United Maori Mission) from September 1981 until the end of  2004. On that particular visit I entered a second-hand book shop and discovered seven volumes on Romans written by D. M. Lloyd-Jones. The cost of the seven volumes was NZ $110.00. But if I remember correctly, I paid less than that. In Thailand, where I worked as a missionary for about 13 years we usually did not pay for goods what we were asked to pay.

THE QUESTION IS: “The person who inspired you most and why?

I have read expositions of Paul’s letter to the Romans by Dr Lloyd-Jones, but I am not quite sure if I have read all seven volumes. At the present time I am reading “God’s way of Reconciliation” by D. Martyn-Lloyd-Jones. That are expositions of Ephesians chapter two and here is a quote from the book: NO ONE WILL EVER HAVE A TRUE CONCEPTION OF THE BIBLICAL TEACHING WITH REGARD TO REDEMPTION IF HE IS NOT CLEAR ABOUT THE BIBLICAL TEACHING OF SIN.”

If you type “Romans” or “Lloyd-Jones” into the Search box of this blog you will find  more about the expositions and also quotes by D M Lloyd-Jones.

I have told you already the name of the person who inspires me most and here is the reason why?

In Romans 12:6 it says, “We have different gifts, according to the grace given us.” And in Romans 12:7 we read, “..; if it is teaching, let him teach;…” And Dr Lloyd-Jones is teaching.

I don’t remember what he taught in the sermon I heard in the year 1963 at Westminster Chapel in London, but I can still read in his books what he taught when he was still  alive and my faith is strengthened.

MEETINGS

TE AHU

I love to go to meetings.

Last Tuesday I attended a political meeting at Te Ahu here in Kaitaia.

The speaker was the leader of the Opposition. It was good to listen to part of the meeting. At that time the speaker answered questions from the audience.

I go to all sorts of meetings, but I cannot remember when I attended my last political meeting.
