Running the Length of New Zealand

Cape Reinga in the Far North of New Zealand.

At the present time a man from Napier, Peter Newburn, is running the length of New Zealand for a good cause (to raise funds and awareness for autism). His goal is to run the distance in 20 days.

The length of New ZealandĀ  from Cape Reinga to the Bluff is about 2050 km. The length of the North Island is about 1070 km and the length of the South Island is about 940 km.

I have been a number of times to Cape Reinga, but never to the Bluff. (Kaitaia is not far from Cape Reinga.)

The existing record for running the length of the country is 18 days and nine hours set by Siggy Bauer in 1975.

Imagine, running 2050 km in about 19 days!

Peter Newburn will be attempting to beat the existing record.
