TRAINING (Exercise)

There is physical exercise and there is also spiritual exercise.

A. PHYSICAL EXERCISE

Exercise recharges our batteries.

1 Timothy 4:8 says, “For physical training is of some value.” (The Amplified Bible)

What are the benefits of physical exercise? Three are usually mentioned, namely:

  • It restores our perspective.
  • It tones up our muscles.
  • It recharges our batteries.

B. SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

1 Timothy 4:7 says, “Train yourself toward godliness (piety) – keeping yourself spiritually fit.” (The Amplifies Bible)

We must read the Bible to stay spiritually fit.

How do we keep spiritually fit?

  • WE MUST PRAY. I was really challenged when I was told in a sermon that John Wesley prayed four hours a day.
  • WE MUST STUDY THE BIBLE. How many times have you read the Bible from cover to cover?
  • WE MUST WALK IN THE SPIRIT.
  • WE MUST SHARE CHRIST WITH OTHERS. This morning I told two tourists that I believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. They were happy to accept my business cards.
  • WE MUST SERVE OTHERS. I still have to learn a lot when it comes to serving others.
  • WE MUST ALSO LIVE A PURE AND HOLY LIFE.

Listen to what the Bible says about physical training and spiritual training in 1 Timothy 4:8:

” For physical training is of some value – useful for a little; but godliness [spiritual training] is useful and of value in everything and in every way, for it holds promise for the present life and also for the life which is to come.” (The Amplified Bible)

The Bible teaches that the greatest profit comes from “spiritual training.”
