The Business of the Christian Church

“The Church has been talking about politics and the economic situation for many years but with no noticeable effect,” writes D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones in his book called SPIRITUAL DEPRESSION.

Reading that reminds me of the article called “State of the Nation Report 2020.” (War Cry, 07 March 2020)

The report has the following headings:

  • OUR CHILDREN,
  • WORK AND INCOMES,
  • CRIME AND PUNISHMENT,
  • SOCIAL HAZARDS,
  • HOUSING,
  • INDICATORS OF INEQUALITIES BETWEEN MAORI AND NON-MAORI.

And in his book THE CROSS, D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones writes, “And the business of the Christian church is to preach, not to lecture. It is not to deal with politics, nor with social conditions but to preach.”

In 1 Corinthians 2:2 the Apostle Paul says:

“I determined not to know anything among you, safe Jesus Christ, and him crucified.”

“‘When the heavens are shut up and there is no rain because your people have sinned against you, and when they pray toward this place and confess your name and turn from their sin because you have afflicted them, …'” – 2 Chronicles 6:26

“David [King of Israel] knew that a people can rise no higher economically, scientifically and politically than the level of their spiritually resources.” – Billy Graham

“Here was a humble admission and an acknowledgement that a nation’s sickness can be attributed to its spiritual ills.” – Billy Graham
