Bible verses in our Newspapers

I like to read the verses from the Bible in our newspapers.

LEFT: (“Text for Today”) The New Zealand Herald, Tuesday, March 17, 2020

RIGHT: ( “God’s Word open for all”) The Northland Age, Tuesday, March 17, 2020

I am wondering who else likes to read the verses.

Quote

“The further one goes in holy living, the more sin one will find in the attitudes of one’s own heart, needing to be dealt with in this way.” – J. I. Packer

CURSES AND BLESSINGS

One of our newspapers tells us what Covid-19, Coronavirus, is, and how to protect yourself and others and what the symptoms of Covid-19 are.

We are also having a drought here in Kaitaia in the Far North of New Zealand and the problem is maintaining water supply for the town.

In Deuteronomy 28:15-68 we are reading about the “Curses for Disobedience.”

Listen to what it says in Deuteronomy 28:22:

“The LORD will strike you with wasting disease, with fever and inflammation, with scorching heat and drought, with blight and mildew, which will plague you until you perish.”

And in Deuteronomy 28:1-14 we are told about the “Blessings for Obedience.”

Three symptoms of Covid-19 are mentioned in the newspaper, namely a cough, a high temperature (at least 28 degrees C) and shortness of breath.

GREED

“Our motto at Measureup is ‘WE ARE NOT GREEDY, JUST COMPETITIVE,'” says the advertisement in our local paper.

What is greed? It is an excessive desire for a lot of things: food, wealth, power and success.

Do I ever like that motto.

What does the Bible say in Luke 12:15?

There we read:

“Then he [Jesus] said to them, ‘Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.'”
