I read about the “Passion at Oberammergau” in Germany in the paper not too many days ago.
But today a Kiwi couple told me, “We are just back from Oberammergau.”
Peter Atkins is writing in his article “Power and passion lift the spirit” in “travel” (August 24, 2010) how a village kept a promise made 367 years ago:
“The villagers of Oberammergau made a vow to God in 1643 to perform a play about the passion of Christ every ten years if they were spared the ravages of death through the plague. Their tiny village escaped and they have kept the promiseĀ ever since.”
