Kaitaia in the north of New Zealand is one of the friendliest towns I have ever lived in. And I have lived in a number of places all over the world, in Europe and also in Asia. Of course, you must be friendly as well to everybody. Once you have been here for a number of years it seems that everybody knows everybody. I said so much to the people from further up north, when I met them on the main street of this beautiful town in front of Farmers.
Not long ago I went to a place here in Kaitaia where I don’t go so often and ran into people I know. I was friendly to them and they were friendly to me. I mentioned to them that Kaitaia is a small place and that it is difficult to hide in this place.
Talking about and thinking about hiding places reminds of what I was told some time ago. Somebody said something like this to me, “We have all our problems, but some people are better at hiding them.”
Are you inclined to hide your problems? I think it is quite a difficult task to hide one’s problems. Sooner or later things are coming to the light. I know that that is true, because I see that just now with my own eyes. Sometimes we can hide our problems from people for a long time.
But we cannot hide anything from God!
I love Psalm 139 in the Bible. The Psalm is from David. Just listen to what David says at the beginning of Psalm 139.
And what David says, we can say as well. The LORD knows when I sit and when I stand. Most of the time I don’t care if I sit or stand, but the LORD cares! Praise the LORD! The LORD even knows my thoughts…… from afar. He knows when I leave the house and when I am tired in the evening and go to bed. The LORD is familiar with all my ways.
Does that frighten you or are you glad about that? I am glad about that fact.
The LORD knows even all the words that come out of my mouth before I have said them. Don’t ask me to explain that. We cannot. Even David says in verse 8 of Psalm 139 “Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.” (Psalm 139:8)
