I LIKE BOOK FAIRS

The book was bought at the final Kaitaia Rotary Club book fair of the year together with two others.

On the back cover of the slender volume Dr. J. B. Phillips writes that he hopes that the book will be read by thousands intelligent people.

Rotary Club

But the book looks to me as if it has not been read by many people at all.

The name of a previous owner is written in the book and crossed out. There is also evidence that the book at one stage belonged to a church library. I find the rubber stamp of the church twice in the book and there is also a pocket attached inside the book. In the pocket is the card on which I should find the names of all the people who have borrowed the book from the library, but there are none, not even one. Eventually the book has been donated to the Kaitaia Rotary Club book fair to be sold.

The book is called:

“HEREAFTER.

A new look at  an old question

What happens after death?”

The author of the book is David Winter.

Why is the book not read by thousands of intelligent people?

The answer is actually in the book.

It says there right at the beginning that people refuse to think about death.

The final Kaitaia Rotary Club book fair of the year was advertised in our local paper and it said there that the donated books “will sell for a song,” and they did. Only a dollar was paid for the book “Hereafter” by David Winter and the other two good books.

Some of my best books I have bought second-hand “for a song”. Have you heard me say that before?
