We need to be exhorted to remember.
That came to me again today when I was given reminders to quit smoking.
“smokefree” is written in a toothbrush, “smokefree.org.nz” is not only written in English on a pen, but also in Maori, “Quit now it’s about whanau (family) I read on a stress ball and on a balloon and keyring it says:
“smokefree
Aotearoa
New Zealand
2025
smokefree.org.nz”
We need to be exhorted to remember the commandments in the Bible delivered to Moses.
When reading the quit smoking reminders on the toothbrush, the pen, the stress ball, the balloon, and the keyring, Deuteronomy 6:6-8 came to my mind, where it says,
“Tie them as symbols on your hand and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.”
I think I remember correctly that Matthew 11:28 was written above the entrance door of a church hall in Germany I attended. That was long ago in Bottrop in the Ruhr District.
You find Bible verses written on walls in church buildings, even here in Kaitaia.
Some time ago there was here in Kaitaia a coffee shop. On one wall of the coffee shop was written a verse from the Bible. I really liked to go to that shop for a cup of coffee. But the restaurant is no longer in operation.
This morning I went to the different rooms in our house and was surprised to find a good number of framed verses from the Word of God hanging on the walls. Here is the one I really like. It is Deuteronomy 29:29 (easy to remember), where it says:
“THE SECRET THINGS BELONG TO THE LORD OUR GOD, BUT THE THINGS REVEALED BELONG TO US AND OUR CHILDREN FOREVER, THAT WE MAY FOLLOW ALL THE WORDS OF THIS LAW.”
I do not need to be reminded to quit smoking, because I don’t smoke and have never been smoking, but I need to be exhorted to remember what it says in the Bible, the Word of God.
