WHO AM I? (KO WAI AHAU?)

“People who don’t know where they come from, don’t know who they are or where they are going,” is a quote by Michael King.

The quote is written on the last page of a leaflet I picked up yesterday (1 February 2020) at a meeting of the Far North Branch of the New Zealand Society of Genealogists. The special guest speaker was Michelle Patient.

Who am I?

Who does not want to discover more about his ancestors? I would like to know where they came from, where they moved to, what they did to make a living, how they lived and more.

Also yesterday (1 February 2020) I received the prayer and newsletter from a missionary society in Switzerland in German. The letter started with a quote by Blaise Pascal: “Ohne Jesus Christus wissen wir weder, was unser Leben noch was unser Tod ist noch was Gott ist noch was wir selber sind.” (“Without Jesus Christ we do not know what our life, what our death is, what God is, or what we ourselves are.” – Blaise Pascal)

Please notice the 4 points, especially the last one, namely “what we ourselves are.”

Society of Genealogists

Today I accepted the invitation of the Far North Branch of the New Zealand Society of Genealogists to hear Michelle Patient at Far North REAP in Kaitaia (9.30 – 4.30pm).

Michelle is a world – renowned family historian.

I stayed for the first part of the presentation.
