“GET ONE’S TEETH INTO,” I found not long ago in the The Collins Concise Dictionary, and I am thinking quite a bit about it.

It seems to me that at the present time the message for me is to get my teeth into serious study of the Bible, to become engrossed in The Word of God.

Yes, I am reading my BIBLE from cover to cover, and yes, I am going to Church and listen to sermons, but I have decided to make an effort to get again into serious study of the Scriptures.

Romans ONE

In First Corinthians 12:28 we read that God has appointed teachers in the Church.

One of the outstanding teachers was Dr Lloyd-Jones, who was born in South Wales and died in 1981.

He became the minister of Westminster Chapel, Buckingham Gate, where he ministered for 30 years.

During that time on  Friday he preached through Paul’s greatest Epistle, Paul’s letter to the Romans. Martin Luther said that Paul’s letter to the Romans is the greatest book in the New Testament.

Dr Lloyd-Jones Expositions of Romans are available in print and a number of volumes are in my possession.

I have not only started to read, but to study the exposition of Romans chapter 1, The Gospel of God, by D. M. Lloyd-Jones. The volume has almost 400 pages, 349 to be exact. What I really like is that he is looking at the letter as a whole in the beginning and that he says, “Let us get a bird’s-eye view of the great and massive argument.”

After giving a bird’s-eye view of the great and massive argument, he is going verse by verse through the chapter and I find 29 sermons in the volume. There are even two sermons on Romans 1:2!

To get my teeth into Scripture, to become engrossed in The Word of God helps me to obey the commands of God:

1. To “be careful to obey all the law.”
2. Not to “turn from ist to the right or to the left.”
3. Not to let the Book of the law depart from my mouth.
4. To meditate on the law day and night. (Psalm 1:2; Joshua 1:7,8)

Reading today, “What’s more clever than speaking in several languages? Keeping your mouth shut in one,” made me laugh. (Coffee New, Vol 197:4)

I am not only reading the Coffee News, but also the Bible.

What does the BIBLE say about my tongue, my lips, and my mouth?

In Psalm 141:3 David prays, “Set a guard over my MOUTH, O LORD; keep watch over the door of my LIPS.”

Ecclesiastes 5:2 says, “Do not be quick with your MOUTH, …”

” …, but he who holds his TONGUE is wise, says Proverbs 10:19.

And in Proverbs 13:3 we read, “He who guards his LIPS guards his life, but he who speaks rashly comes to ruin.”

Proverbs 21:23 says, “He who guards his MOUTH and his TONGUE keeps himself from calamity.”

Proverbs 16:23 says, “A wise man’s heart guides his MOUTH, and his LIPS promote instruction.”

I like especially what it says in Isaiah 30:15. There we read:

“…, IN QUIETNESS … IS YOUR STRENGTH, …”

That promise and that challenge has been with me for many, many years! David prayed, “Set a guard over my mouth, O LORD;” I pray, “Lord, keep me quiet, because I want to be strong.”

Who do you listen to when you are hearing or reading about success?

Today I am reading again about success:

Jim Rohn says,”Successful people do what unsuccessful people are not willing to do. Don’t wish it were easier; wish you were better.”

And this is a quote by Vidal Sassoon: “The only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary.”

Think about  what you have read and heard about success.

I remember also that the Bible tells us the way to success. We find the  word “successful” twice in the book of Joshua. For those who do not know  Joshua is part of the Bible.

In Joshua 1:7 we find the word “successful” and also in Joshua 1:8.

Listen to what it says in Joshua 1:7:

“Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it from it to the right or to the left, that you be successful wherever you go.” (NIV)

I am not listening to people, but I am listening to what the Lord Jesus Christ says in the Bible. (In the book of Joshua.)

What is my favourite book?

That is the question I am asking myself when I am reading about the favourite book of someone on a bookmark.

It is a Book Depository bookmark. The bookmark tells me that it is a #BDDesign bookmark.

I am reading also that it is designed by one of the customers of the book store and that it is part of a set.

The name of the designer is also given and I notice that the designer is from the country of Serbia.

You can also see a photo  of the front cover of the favourite book of the designer. The favourite book is called “Growth of the Soil” by Knut Hamsun.
