PASSION

“Passionate about service,” I read some time ago on a delivery truck I saw at Ahipara.

“Passionate about service”

“PASSION FOR A PURPOSE,” is the title of a story I saw today in one of our local papers, while having coffee at one of our restaurants here in Kaitaia. Also today in a book written by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones on Romans I came across the quote by Count Zinzendorf, “I HAVE ONE PASSION, IT IS HE, AND HE ALONE”! Meaning of course the Lord Jesus Christ.

Nikolaus Ludwig Graf von Zinzendorf was born in Dresden in Germany in the year 1700, and he died in the year 1760 in Herrnhut, also in Germany. In 1722 he founded Herrnhut, where he lived. He preached the Lord Jesus Christ in many places. They include Norway, Greenland, Russia, England, America and Africa. I can hardly believe it, but he wrote 2000 hymns. The hymn “HERZ UND HERZ VEREINT ZUSAMMEN”, he wrote in the year 1723 in Dresden.

It is always a great encouragement to read about people who are compassionate about something, especially about people who are compassionate about the service for the Lord Jesus Christ.

WHOLEHEARTEDLY

WHOLEHEARTEDLY

Numbers 32:11,12

Introduction:

There are those who follow the Lord wholeheartedly. There are also those who don’t follow the Lord wholeheartedly.

WHOLEHEARTEDLY: Caleb and Joshua were fully committed.

A. The Bible tells us about people who followed the Lord wholeheartedly.

a. CALEB followed the Lord wholeheartedly.

Caleb was a Judahite who spied out Canaan – Numbers 13:6. He was allowed to enter the land because of his faith – Numbers 13:30 – 14:38; Deuteronomy 1:36. He possessed Hebron – Judges 14:6 – 15:19.

b. JOSHUA followed the Lord wholeheartedly.

He fought the Amalekites under Moses – Exodos 17:9-14. He was the Servant of Moses on Sinai – Exodus 24:13 and 32:17. He spied out Canaan – Numbers 13. With Caleb, he was allowed to enter the promised land – Numbers 14:6. He was the successor of Moses – Deuteronomy 1:38; 31:1-18; 33:9.

You find more about Joshua in the book called “Joshua.”

B. The bible tells us also about people who do not follow the Lord wholeheartedly.

The men twenty years old or more did not follow the Lord wholeheartedly.

End:

Those who followed  the Lord wholeheartedly – Caleb and Joshua – saw the land the Lord had promised, and those who did not follow the Lord – the men twenty years old or more – did not not see the promised land.

BECAUSE OF HIS FAITH CALEB WAS ALLOWED TO ENTER THE PROMISED LAND.
