“IT’S OFFICIAL: DROUGHT DECLARED”

Physical Droughts

We are reading about physical droughts in the paper:

The Northern Advocate: “Far North prepares for major drought”

The Northland Age: “Drought zone” and “Council acts early to prepare for another drought”

SPIRITUAL DROUGHTS

We are reading about spiritual droughts in the Bible, the Word of the Living God:

Psalm 63:1

O GOD,

Intr.:

you are my God,

1. earnestly I seek you;

2. my soul thirsts for you,

3. my body longs for you,

End:

in a dry and weary land where there is no water.”

Psalm 68:6

“God sets the lonely in families,

he leads forth the prisoners with singing;

but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.”

NO WATER FOR US THIS MORNING!

Water stopped flowing in our pipes this morning, but workers are busy just now to restore the damage done to the supply of water for our street.

It teaches me to be thankful for the daily water, and not only for the daily water, but also for the daily electricity.

But I am even more thankful for the  Living Water. The Living Water never stops flowing.

The Lord Jesus Christ speaks about the Living Water in John 4:10.

“Jesus answered her, ‘If you knew the GIFT of God and who it is that ask you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you Living Water.'”

Lots of talk about gifts at this Christmas time. Just now I am looking at an ad that  says “PROPER CHRISTMAS PRESENTS”.

Read John 4:1-26

“FOOD & WINE TRAIL”

“Have your say on alcohol law reform” says the pamphlet produced by the Salvation Army. It is “A guide to understanding and making a submission to the Government’s proposed Alcohol Law Reform Bill.”

On the front page you can see lots of images. People are holding up posters. This is written on the posters: “It’s time for DRASTIC CHANGE / Ease up on the drink / DON’T ADVERTISE ALCOHOL ON MY SCHOOL BUS!!!”

Many start with: “ALCOHOL LAW REFORM NOW”; for example: “Increase treatment Services /  INCREASE PRICE / RAISE PURCHASE AGE.” There are two posters saying “RAISE PURCHASE AGE”.

“Have your say on alcohol law reform.” I WILL! On page two of the pamphlet I read “Changing laws and changing our drinking culture”.

When will our drinking culture change? When will people stop drinking?

When the GOSPEL is preached in the power of the Holy Spirit. I remember Billy Graham saying that the communicating agent of the GOSPEL is the Holy Spirit. We must pray for people to come out of darkness into light, from death into life. And our praying must be guided by the Holy Spirit.

In Romans 1:16 Paul says:  “I am not ashamed of the GOSPEL, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.”
