“POWER OUTAGE”

POWER OUTAGE

POWER OUTAGE

“POWER OUTAGE” says the public notice in our local paper, THE NORTHLAND AGE, Tuesday, March 5, 2013.

“Kaitaia and surrounding Districts

SUNDAY 17 MARCH 2013

8AM- 5:30 PM “

“Top Energy needs to carry out essential maintenance work on the main electricity transmission line that supplies Kaitaia and the surrounding districts. This work is necessary to ensure that the area continues to receive a reliable supply of electricity.”

And this is what I wrote on June 9, 2008 about SHUTDOWN NOTICES:

In spite of the power shutdown notice from Top Energy, which stated exactly when the power would be disconnected from the premises on our street, we got caught three times.

First of all the extractor fan in our bathroom did not work, my electric shaver did not go and my wife was not able to get the car out of the garage.

We are dependant on Top Energy for our power supply and nobody has trouble acknowledging that. However, there is a bigger power supply than Top Energy, namely the Almighty God. But we are having trouble admitting that we are completely dependant on the power of God. God is the only one who is selfexistent. God is the only independant being in the universe. We are dependant beings.

When Top Energy dropped the power shutdown notice into our letterbox we should have paid better attention. The consequences for not doing so were but minor.

But when we are treating the shutdown notices from Almighty God, as written in the Bible, with contempt, we are in big trouble.

We find one shutdown notice in Hebrews 9:27. Those who are born are going to die! Another shutdown notice is recorded in the last book of the Bible. In Revelation 1:7 is written, “Look, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him …”

Let us acknowledge that we are dependant on our creator God and accept his salvation, before we get our shutdown  notice.

MANU-AUTE, MANU PAKAUKAU

Seeing a Maori Kite today at the TE AHU COMMUNITY CENTRE (Atrium) reminded me of flying a kite when I was going to school in the north of Germany.

“These kites were made in various shapes, and of different materials, different varieties being known as manu-aute, manu-pakaukau, manu-puai (triangular in shape), manu-tara and manu- tu.” (A Dictionary of the Maori Language by H. W. Willaims M.A.

“A lock is only for honest people,” I remember a neighbour telling me once.

So, where do we go then for  protection from harm?

SECURITY

SECURITY

I probably would not have  noticed it, but visitors to Kaitaia pointed out to me  the evidence of a breakin  in one of our shops here in town, when I went for a walk on this beautiful day this afternoon. And I would say that the owner of the shop has done everything to make the building secure.

Psalm 127 in the Bible begins with these words:

“Unless the LORD builds the house , its builders  labor in vain.

Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain.” – Psalm 127:1

WE MUST ASK THE LORD TO WATCH OVER US AND OUR PROPERTY!

“Could this be Heaven on Earth?”

“COULD THIS BE HEAVEN ON EARTH?”

I am reading that question in the Far North Real Estate Property Xpress. (Wednesday, February 27, 2013)

It is a full page advertisement with beautiful pictures. Under the biggest image it says, “Experience paradise: This spectacular 16 hectare beachfront property overlooking pristine Doubtless Bay is home to a stunningly tranquil retreat.”

I take also notice of the words “divine, paradise, tranquil, peace, freedom, solitude, calm, peace,” and “warmth” in the ad.

I leave it to you to answer the above question. But I want to ask you another question.

WHY DO WE ASK QUESTIONS LIKE THAT?

The BIBLE has the answer:

We are reading in Psalm 119:81 “My soul faints with longing for your salvation, …”

And again in Psalm 119:174 “I long for your salvation, O LORD, …”

Please notice the words “long, longing and “salvation.”
