Children of the devil / Children of God

In The Gospel of John chapter eight the Lord Jesus Christ is talking about the Children of the Devil. That is the caption of John 8:42-47 in the NIV. (New International Version)

John 8:44 “You belong to your father, the devil,….”

John 1:10-13 tells us how to become a child of God!

John 1:12,13

“Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God – children born

not of natural descent,

nor of human decision or

a husband’s will,

but born of God.

Vor kurzem nahm ich das Buch “Das heilige Blut” von Jakob Vetter in die Hand. Jakob Vetter gruendete im Jahre 1903 die “Deutsche Zeltmission” in Geisweid in Westfalen und hat in den folgenden 15 Jahren viele Zehntausende mit der frohen Botschaft erreicht. Unzaehlige Menschen sind durch ihn zum Frieden  mit Gott durch Jesus Christus gekommen. Er starb mit 46 Jahren.

Als ich es aufschlug, fand ich einen sehr kurzen Brief von meiner verstorbenen Mutter in dem Buch. Meine Mutter hatte den kurzen Gruss oder das kurze Zeugnis einfach auf die erste Seite des Buches geschrieben. Ich bin dafuer natuerlich sehr dankbar.

Sie schrieb:

“Ich bin froh, dass ich meine Lebensbeduerfnisse immer herabgeschraubt habe. Ich kann allem entsagen. Eure Mutti!”

Warum teile ich Ihnen dies hier mit?

Psalm 87:7 kommt mir da ins Gedaechtnis. Da heisst es in dem Psalm:

” ‘ALLE MEINE QUELLEN SIND IN DIR!’ “

Some time ago I asked the question:

What is distinguishing Christianity from all other Religions?

The answer:

We are all great in responding to encouragement. That’s why we need encouragement and lots of it.

I was greatly encouraged lately. And it was no coincidence.

One day I saw a magazine in a restaurant here in town and the headline on the first page caught my attention immediately. In really big letters there was written: “OUT OF STEP. Why hit show Glee isn’t just another high school musical.” (Time Out, Weekly TV Viewing Guide & Picks). What was I thinking, when reading that? Yes, that is right. I was thinking that most of the people in this world are out of step with God.

The next day ‘it just happened’ that I saw books lying on the carpet of our bedroom. Second – hand books, bought at the church fair in town that day. No need to tell you who bought them.

On top of all the reading material was a magazine and on the front page I read: “IN STEP WITH GOD. Understanding His Ways and Plans for Your Life.”

“In Step with God” is the title of one of the latest books written by C. F. Stanley.

He himself summarises his book like this: “The only way to walk in step with God is to stay in TOUCH with Him, ….”

And who wants to guess the title of the magazine I saw lying on the carpet of our bedroom? The magazine is called: “IN TOUCH”. (October 2008)
