“From Samaritan’s Purse:

As you know, countless thousands of people have been impacted by the catastrophes that have struck South East Asia and the Pacific Islands this week.”

“An 8.3 magnitude earthquake hit the small cluster of Samoan Islands early Tuesday, triggering a tsunami that killed at least 150 people. This was followed by an earthquake of 5.5 magnitude on Wednesday. There was massive property damage along the heavily populated coasts of the Samoan Islands. The Red Cross reports that there is a critical need for clean water,  food, shelter and healthcare.”

“Globally, Samaritan’s Purse has already sent a DART (Disaster Assistance Response Team) to Manila, Philippines to assist our local partners in meeting the desperate needs after Thyphoon Ketsana. Another team is en route to support our local partners in Indonesia after the impact of the earthquakes there.”

The caption for the verses 1-35 of  Matthew chapter 24 is “Signs of the End of the Age.” Matthew 24:1-35

In Matthew 24:7 we read about famines and earthquakes in various places. And then in verse eight of Matthew 24 it says:

“ALL THESE ARE THE BEGINNING OF BIRTH PAINS.”

John 9:3

This is written on page two of the “baptist”, the magazine of the baptist churches of new zealand.  (Vol. 125  No. 9  October 2009):

According to a Bible Society New Zealand research 2009 less than one quarter of Kiwi Christians read their Bible during the week. (I am always wondering  how accurate figures like that are.)

The question is asked: Are we in a crisis? We are told, that it is time to take action. We can take part in a Bible Reading Challenge called: E 100. We are encouraged to make sure to join in the challenge  with tens of thousands of other Kiwi Christians from all denominations. The launching date is  the 18 April 2010. Churches can register of course. Is our church going to register?

WHAT IS THE ANSWER TO THE CRISIS?

The only way to become a Christian is by being born again. The new birth is the work of the Holy Spirit, who imparts to the sinner the gift of faith and the power of new spritual life (John 3:3).

John 1:13 “Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”

Seeing the work of  God displayed in the life of people is exciting (Joh 9:3). The work of God is displayed in the life of people today:

There are individuals who not only read through the Bible once a year, but they have done it even twice a year. And by that I mean each word from cover to cover, from Genesis to Revelation. Is that not exciting!

All 66 books of the Bible, the 39 books of the Old Testament and the 27 books of the New Testament!

They even read about all the offerings at the beginning of Leviticus and the first nine chapters of First Chronicles.

You know what I am talking about.

I saw the above slogan in the office of kiwidotcom ( ‘Succeeding Today, Shaping Tomorrow’ ) here in Kaitaia.

But unfortunately the writer to the Hebrews says in Hebrews 5:11 “….you are slow to learn.” Are you also slow to learn? Are you slow to learn the WORD OF THE LIVING GOD?

I hope not!

Certificate in Computing – Level 3

Six times a year I think it is that I get the newsletter from the Bible College I went to. It is actually more a magazine and it is called “BRAKER EHEMALIGEN FORUM”. (The magazine for the Graduates)

You find letters from the present principal of the College in the magazine and the graduates are also invited to report what they are doing at the present time all over the world. And there are other news as well.

I have the October/November issue here before me and on page ten you can read about weddings, the births of children and about people who died.

There is quite a bit written about the people who got married lately and also about the  children that were born, but when it comes to the two people who died,  — there are no comments whatsoever, only the Name , the day when they died and the year when they graduated from the College.

One of the people who died I knew very well. We attended not only the same Bible College but we belonged to the same Missionary Society called WEC International. He worked in Africa with his wife, who came from The Netherlands. (Holland) And thinking a little bit more about the second death announcement, the name is also familiar. But I am not sure there.

One of these days my name will appear there whether I want it to appear there or not. One of these days it will be there!

But I want to make sure that not only my name will be written there. I think that is not good enough.

Dwight L. Moody said long before he died:

“Some day you will read in the papers that D. L. Moody of East Northfield is dead. Don’t you believe a word of  it. At that moment I shall be more alive than I am now.”
