HOW I BECAME A CHRISTIAN

When I was 17 I said to a friend with whom I worked,” I., do you think you’ll go to heaven when you die?” ” Well, yes, I hope so,” was her reply.

“How do you think we get there?” I persisted. ” If we’ve done more good things than bad, I reckon we’ll get there alright.”

I felt far from convinced, and in the days that followed I sometimes found myself thinking about God and eternity.

One night after returning home from a dance, I found myself thinking, ‘If I’m not really happy now when I’m enjoying life, will I ever be?’

Months passed, but then one Sunday morning I found in the bookcase at home, a little book called ‘The Travellers Guide’. In the book I read that God had already done all that was necessary for my salvation- that he had loved me that he gave His son to die for me- in my stead, and that the moment I believed that and received Him as my Saviour, I would receive Eternal life.

I can recall saying,’Oh, I see now, Jesus died for me!’ Further on in the book I read a prayer which put into words the decision I had come to. I made that prayer on my own and became aware of a peace such as I had never experienced. I began to confess Him as my Saviour and now further on, I praise Him not only for His saving but also for His keeping.

I met up with a German fellow today at the Information Centre and later on I was stopped by a car. Two people did not want to go through the Mangamuka Gorge south. They wanted to know how to get to the East Coast Road. I gave them the directions.

What an opportinity to hand out some tracts! But I did not have any.

ACTS –“A Study of Conversions”

I am doing now Lesson 05 (Acts 4:1-22)

It says there at the beginning “The first opposition arises from the rulers of the jews.”–“Peter and John are brought before the Sanhedrin Council.”

There is nothing new under the sun. The same is true today. For example if somebody is obedient to the Lord and does what the Lord is commanding to do, then there is opposition from brothers and sisters in the Lord.

Some people feel threatened. They feel insecure.

Have you ever been in a situation like that?

Arrived here as part of a contemporary Arts Festival.

I received a letter today which started with “WE CAN’T PREDICT THE FUTURE, BUT WE CAN HELP YOU PREPARE FOR IT.” And then it said, “Dear Mr Dekarski As you already…”

My response:

Dear State Funeral Insurance People,

I am glad that you are admitting that you cannot predict the future. Because you cannot predict the future you cannot really help me to prepare for it.

But I know that the Lord Jesus Christ knows the future and I know also that the Lord Jesus Christ has prepared a glorious future for me. I do not want to go into details in this letter. May this brief note suffice for the time being. But should you be really curious, read the Bible, the Word of the Living God.
