TRUE FASTING:

Isaiah 58:13-14

Intr.:

Is not this the kind of Fasting I have chosen:  Isaiah 58:6

IF YOU….

1. If you keep your feet from breaking the Sabbath and

2. from doing as you please on my holy day,

3. if you call the Sabbath a delight and

4. the Lord’s holy day honorable, and

5. if you honor it by not going your own way and

6. not doing as you please or

7. speaking idle words,p1060468

then

1. you will find your joy in the Lord, and

2. I will cause you to ride on the heights of the land and

3. to feast on the inheritance of your father Jacob.

Intr. There the LORD

HE SAID,:

1. if you listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and

2. do what is right in his eyes,

3. if you pay attention to his commands

4. and keep all his decrees,

— I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians,

— for I am the Lord, who heals you.

Isaiah 58:6,9-12,14

Intr.:

Is not this the kind of Fasting I have chosen:

If you

1. do away with the yoke of oppression,

2. with the pointing finger and

3. malicious talk, and

4. if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and

5. satisfy the needs of the oppressed,

1. your light will rise in the darkness, and

2. your night will become like the noonday.

3. The Lord will guide you always;

4. he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and

5. will strengthen your frame.

6. You will be like a well-watered garden,

7. like a spring whose waters never fail.

8. Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and

9. will raise up the age-old foundations;

10. you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls,

11. Restorer of  Streets with Dwellings.

INTR.:  “Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:

TRUE FASTING:

IF YOU……

1. to loose the chains of injustice and

2. untie the cords of the yoke,

3.  to set the oppressed free and

4. break every yoke?

5. Is it not to share your food with the hungry and

6. to provide the poor wanderer with  shelter –

7. when you see the naked, to clothe him, and

8. not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?

THEN……

1. … your light will break forth like the dawn, and

2. your healing will quickly appear;

3. then your righteousnes will go before you, and

4. the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.

5. Then you will call, and the Lord will answer;

6. you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I.

Dwelling in your Sanctuary-Living on your Holy Hill

Psalm 15:1-5

Intr.: LORD, who may dwell in your sanctuary? Wo may live on your holy hill?

1. He whose walk is blameless and

2. who does what is righteous,

3. who speaks the truth from his heart and

4. has no slander on his tongue,

5. who does his neighbor no wrong and

6. casts no slur on his fellowman,

7. who dispises a vile man

8. but honours those who fear the Lord,

9. who keeps his oath even when it hurts,

10. who lends his money without usury and

11. does not receive a bribe against the innocent

end: He who does these things will never be shaken.
