“Watch your Step”

“PLEASE TAKE CARE & WATCH YOUR STEP.”

I think  “WATCH YOUR STEP” is a personal message for me at the present time. Why? Because I hear and read a lot these days about people who are not watching their steps. No need to tell you that you can end up in a terrible mess, if you don’t watch your steps. The Germans have a saying that goes translated like this: One moment when you do not watch can destroy your whole life. (“Ein unbedachter Augenblick zerstoert so manches Lebensglueck.”)

It is actually amazing how you remember certain things:

When I was a student at school our teacher used to say something like this: “I am telling you to do things and I know that those who are obedient already will be even more obedient and that those who do not care about what I say will continue to be disobedient.”

Please remember the message: “WATCH YOUR STEP.”

Let us always remember that God sees our every step. (Job 34:21) Is that not wonderful? What do you think? The Bible teaches that we should be prudent and give thought to our steps. That is advice to be followed. (Proverbs 14:15) Let us be obedient to the LORD. The LORD makes our steps firm, if he delights in our ways. (Psalm 37:23 ) Are you living by the Spirit? If you do, keep in step with the Spirit. (Galatians 5:25 ) And listen how Jeremiah begins his prayer in Jeremiah 10:23; “I know, O LORD, that a man’s life is not his own; it is not for man to direct his steps.” Do we know that our life does not belong to us?

Finally let us look to the Lord. He left us an example. Why? “…., that we should follow his steps.” (First Peter 2:21)

Remember, what I said at the beginning about my school teacher. If not, read it again.

Have you ever heard about Jim Rohn? In his book “SEVEN STRATEGIES FOR WEALTH AND HAPPINESS he writes about mysteries of life. He says that “Motivation is a mystery.”

Another mystery he writes is also that people are not affected the same way by his lectures. Some listeners are acting on what they have heard and others are muttering to themselves and saying that they have heard all that stuff before.

“Please take care and watch your step.”

MITLAEUFER ( Fellow Traveller or Traveler)

The German word MITLAEUFER comes to my mind lately quite a bit.

But before I carry on writing let me say that the German language is my mother tongue. I don’t want you to say when you have finished reading this, “The guy does not know what he is talking about.” I was born in Germany and resided almost 27 years in that country before  I left for Thailand, to work there as a missionary.

Remember the word Mitlaeufer is on my mind. And today when coming back from the Saturday market in Kaitaia I grabbed my big Collins German Dictionary and looked up the word Mitlaeufer. According to the dictionary the meaning for the British is Fellow Traveller and for the Americans the meaning is just Traveler.

I think one of the most difficult jobs is translation work.

Let me tell you now what I think the ‘real’ meaning of the word Mitlaeufer is. When a real German hears the word Mitlaeufer all those people come to mind who are not really with it. That are those people who do not really know what it is all about. They are running with the real ones  – but they are just not real!

I hope you know what I am on about.

Let me explain:

You find the Mitlaufer in the churches. They are going to church. They are singing the church hymns. They are listening to the word. They are praying.  They are getting into church offices. They are preaching from the pulpits. This list can be continued. They are religious!

But the LORD has done nothing in their hearts. They are still dead. They are still in darkness. THEY ARE NOT BORN AGAIN!

I like that German word Mitlaeufer and don’t tell me I don’t know what I am talking about.

PRAY FOR THE MITLAEUFER!
