“KNOW WHERE YOU STAND”

I saw the article called “Know where you stand” in the “Franchise New Zealand” magazine and it was all about “Buying a Franchise”. (Volume 17 Issue 4) It was about borrowing money as well.

Straight away I was awake! Of course, it is very important to know where we stand. “Know where you stand” was written without an exclamation mark in the article. But I would like to make exclamation marks behind the headline. It is very important to know where we stand with our finances.

But it is even more important to know where we stand with our creator, the God of the universe. As we are born we stand condemned before God. Only as believers in the Lord Jesus Christ are we no longer condemned. John 3:18

Believers are standing on the rock. They have a firm place to stand on. They have been lifted out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire. Psalm 40:2.

Once we know where we stand with God, we also know where we stand with our finances. Or better we should know where we stand with our finances. The Bible says in Romans 13:8: “Let no debt remain outstanding,….”

In fact, the article in the “Franchise New Zealand” magazine says also that , the less debt we have, the better we are off.

More than 117 years ago – Spurgeon

There are people, who are blessed by the Lord. There are people, the Lord is speaking to. Those people are filled with the joy of the Lord. Those people have something to say.

That’s what happened to me on the tenth of March this month, here in Kaitaia. That’s actually the reason, why I am writing down the following.

I picked up my favourite devotional book “Morning and Evening” – “Daily Readings.” I read the evening portion ( Job 14:1) and the Lord put new life into me, while reading it. That’s also the reason, why I read that portion several times. The Lord blessed me. The Lord spoke to me. The Lord refreshed me. Praise His name!

By now you probably know, that that devotional book was written by C. H. Spurgeon. I have also another book, which briefly summarizes the Life of Spurgeon. He was born in 1834, and died at the age of 58 in 1892. All his books where written before 1892. – Dead people don’t write books! – Also the devotional book mentioned above was written 117 years ago, probably in London.

Spurgeon probably never had in mind, to bless me with that portion of writing here in Kaitaia, at the other end of the world, on the tenth of March 2009 – but the Lord Jesus Christ did.

I marvel about things like that. Are you going to marvel with me?

MERCY-INTEGRITY-LOVE-TRUTH

From 1981 – 2004 we worked with the UMM (United Maori Mission) in Kaikohe and for most of the time I was the chairperson of the Mid North Bible in Schools Regional Committee.  I did not only teach Religious Instruction (RE) in  many schools, but I visited all the schools in  the Kaikohe area and beyond before Christmas and before Easter to give out the special leaflets from the Bible Society . The Bible Society is printing special Easter leaflets and Christmas leaflets for the children. (In cooporation with the Churches Education Commission-CEC.)

You can imagine, that I have seen many schools during that time.p10603361

The other day I went to see the catholic school here in Kaitaia and I was surprised to be greeted with the following words written in big letters: MERCY-INTERGRITY- LOVE-TRUTH. Something like that has never happened before , so far as I can remember.

All those words are of course mentioned in the Bible, and when the children are playing on the playground they can see the words MERCY, INTEGRITY, LOVE and TRUTH.

The children going to that school will never forget those words. They will go with them wherever they go.

I am wondering if there is bullying going on in that school?
