“A SUNDAY HABIT …”

“A Sunday habit worth picking up …,”

That’s how an advertisement in our local paper begins and that encourages me, to tell you about one of my Sunday habits.

THE MANGONUI CHURCH IN THE FAR NORTH OF NEW ZEALAND.

The “Sunday habit” advertised in the paper has to do with subscribing to magazines and a newspaper (Sunday Star Times). Those who are interested can call the phone number or visit the website included in the ad.

One of my “Sunday habits” is going to church. The church is in fact a big subject.

BUT HERE ARE FIVE CONDITIONS OF MEMBERSHIP IN THE CHURCH:

  • Acts 2:38: And what did Peter say at Pentecost? “‘REPENT and be baptized, …'”
  • Matthew 16:16-18: FAITH in the Lord Jesus Christ as: a.) Savior, b.) Lord, d.) Son of God.
  • Acts 2:47: “And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” The saved were added to the church. Let us note that they were not added to the church in order to be saved but added to the church because they were saved already. (SALVATION, REGENERATION, THE NEW BIRTH)
  • Acts 2:38: BAPTISM in the name of the Trinity. a.) Matthew 28:19; b.) Acts 10:47,48; c.) Acts 22:16.
  • Acts 2:42: CONTINUANCE IN THE APOSTLE’S DOCTRINE.

I don’t know if you want to pick up the “Sunday habit” advertised in the newspaper, but can I encourage you to pick up the “Sunday habit” to go to church, if you are not in the habit of going to church?

Going to church on Sunday is really “A Sunday habit worth picking up.” (And so is reading the Bible, and not only on Sunday.)

“A Holiday Reading List”

“A holiday reading list,” is one column in our local paper called. (The Northland Age, Tuesday, December 3, 2019) I am also very much interested in reading and I am continuing to read the column.

In the column the writer tells us about the papers she is going to read during the holiday period and the purpose, the reason for reading the papers.

That makes me also tell you about the books on my holiday reading list and the reason for reading them.

MY HOLIDAY READING LIST:

The first book on my list is the Bible. The second book I want to read again is called THE CROSS and the author of the book is D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones.

MY REASON FOR READING THE ABOVE MENTIONED BOOKS:

The Bible is “THE BOOK OF BOOKS” and the book called THE CROSS contains sermons on “God’s Way of Salvation.” And I want to learn more about “God’s Way of Salvation.”

I hope you are now also encouraged to compile your holiday reading list.

“‘We saw clearly that the LORD was with you'”

“‘We saw clearly that the LORD was with you,'” said the king of the Philistines Abimelech to Isaac, when he came to him with his personal adviser Ahuzzath and Phicol, the commander of his forces, from Gerar.

Please read the verses 26-28 in Genesis chapter 26. (First book of the Bible.)

But before Abimelech said to Isaac, “‘We saw clearly that the LORD was with you,'” he said, “‘Move away from us; you have become too powerful for us.'”

You find that in verse 16 of Genesis chapter 26.

I hope that you are now encouraged to read the whole of chapter 26 of Genesis, the verses 1-35!

Now, what do people see when they look at us, especially when we are going through a hard time?

Let us also remember that Abimelech, Ahuzzath and Phicol saw not only that the LORD was with Isaac, but that they saw CLEARLY that the LORD was with Isaac.
