ARCHITECT OR MUDDLER?

ARCHITECT OR MUDDLER?

This morning I picked up again the book “Your preaching …… a force or a farce?” by John Deane. Chapter four is called “Architect or muddler?”

To remember what we are going to preach and hear – sermons – is so important, not only for the preacher, but especially for the hearer, the listener.

Sermons preached by an ARCHITECT – who has an effective arrangement – are easy to remember.

Sermons preached by a MUDDLER – who is quoting Bible verses from Genesis (first book of the Bible) to Revelation (last book of the Bible), if he is given enough time – are difficult to remember.

Muddlers need to read books on preaching, or even better, attend a Bible College, where they teach homiletics, the art of preaching or writing sermons.

nothing while I was

Jesus Christ and him crucified.”

THE CHARGE AGAINST ISRAEL

Hosea 4:1-3

Intr.: This charge was probably made in 722 B. C. 2731 years ago! Has anything changed?

Hear the word of the Lord,

you Israelites,

because the Lord has a charge to bring against you who live in the land:

A. THERE IS NO:

1. faithfulness, no

2. love, no

3. acknowledgment of God in the land.

B. THERE IS ONLY:

1. cursing,

2. lying and

3. murder,

4. stealing and

5. adultery;

6. they break all bounds, and

7. bloodshed follows bloodshed.

End:

Because of this

1. the land mourns,

2. and all who live in it waste away;

3. the beasts of the field and

4. the birds of the air and

5. the fish of the sea are dying.
