A BIBLE or A BALL?

I love books, all kind of books.  I like also to look at the pictures in books.

Sometimes the pictures are right at the beginning of the books.

I have here before me a book with the picture of a gentleman, who has an open BIBLE in his hand. I am used to pictures like that in  books.

But right now I am reading a book with very great interest where there is a big picture at the beginning of the book with a beautifully dressed elderly gentleman sitting on a chair – holding on to a BALL with both of his hands. It is a basketball. And I don’t think I am mistaken.

This happened when Moses and Aaron fell facedown:

Numbers 20:6

“Moses and Aaron went from the assembly to the entrance to the Tent of meeting and fell facedown, AND THE GLORY OF THE LORD APPEARED TO THEM.”

Spurgeon on UNANIMITY:

“The devils are united together as one person in their infamous rebellion, while we believers in Jesus are divided in our service for God, and scarcely ever work with unanimity.”

C. H. Spurgeon

C. H. Spurgeon  lived from 1834-1892.

He said that about more than100 years ago. Nothing has changed. Has the problem escalated?

“SPEND QUALITY TIME WITH YOUNG PEOPLE”

Last Saturday here in Kaitaia at the A & P show I got in touch with people from “Youthtransition Services”.

I know where the office of Youthtransition is in Kaitaia and I always wanted to know more about it. Now I received all the information I was after.

With all the information I was also given a very interesting little notepad and a pocket full of sweets. I gave the sweets away to a child at the show, but the notepad is here with me. At the bottom of the pages of the notepad are maxims like this: “Motivation and determination gets you to your  goals.” And: “Think where you want to be in your future, set goals, do a plan, and go for it.”

I like this one very much: “SPEND QUALITY TIME WITH OUR YOUNG PEOPLE”. Yes, we need to spend time with our young people. Time spent with our  young people is time well spent. But how do we really spend quality time with our young people? I think we are spending quality time with our young people when we are telling them about the Lord Jesus Christ, what He has done for us and what he wants to do for them. We must tell the young people that they can have a living relationship with the Living God through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

We must tell them that they must believe in God, that they must have faith in God. The Bible, the Word of the Living God says in Romans 10:17:

“Consequently,

1. faith comes from hearing the message, and

2. the message is heard through the Word of Christ.”

We must know the BIBLE of course. That goes without saying! We must read the Bible. We must search the Scriptures. We must read the Bible daily.

But that is not all. There is more to come.

In order to tell the message really well we must not only know the Bible, the Word of the Living God well, we must spend time  alone with God, we ourselves must spend quality time with God.

WE MUST PRAY!

Let me say here very quickly that the Bible was in our house when I was a young person and that my mother prayed for her one and only son.

Listen to what king David says in Psalm 5:3

“IN THE MORNING,

O LORD,

1. YOU HEAR MY VOICE;

2. I LAY MY REQUESTS BEFORE YOU AND

3. WAIT IN EXPECTATION.”

“SPEND QUALITY TIME WITH OUR YOUNG PEOPLE.”

But even more important:

SPEND QUALITY TIME WITH GOD.
