“BRINGING BOOKS & PEOPLE TOGETHER”

“Bringing books & people together”

“BOOKNOTES”  is a publication of  The New Zealand Book Council and on the front page of the magazine I am reading (Booknotes Issue 171 Summer 2011):

“BRINGING BOOKS AND PEOPLE TOGETHER.”

What a good idea!

BRINGING “THE BOOK OF BOOKS”  AND PEOPLE TOGETHER!

That  is my motto and the BOOK OF BOOKS is of course the BIBLE, the Word of the Living GOD!

“DO THE RIGHT THING!”

“Do the right thing!”

That is written on the refuse bags we take every Wednesday to the kerbside of our street. We are doing the right thing by separating recyclables from the refuse bag.

In the Free Weekly COFFEE NEWS I am reading,

“ALWAYS DO RIGHT. THIS WILL GRATIFY SOME PEOPLE AND ASTONISH THE REST.”  (Vol 119:3)

Come, let us gratify some people and let us astonish the rest!

The Bible, the Word of the Living God, admonishes us also to think about what is right. Have you heard about the royal law? You find the royal law in the Scriptures. The royal law says:

“Love your neighbour as yourself.”

The Bible says if we really keep that law we are doing right.

In the Word of  God those who are doing right are also encouraged to continue to do right. Children are told that they are doing the right thing by obeying their parents. The Bible says also that everyone who does right is a true follower of the Lord Jesus Christ.  Everyone who does right is born again.

The “Book of books” commands us also to be careful to do what is right. And that in the eyes of everybody. We get tired at times. But listen to what Paul is writing to the Thessalonian brothers: “Never tire of  doing what is right.” In his letter to the Corinthians Paul says about himself that he is taking pains to do what is right. He is taking pains to do what is right in the eyes of the Lord. He is taking pains to do right in the eyes of men.

And finally here are the words of  Peter, the apostle, also called Simon, “But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed.”

“DO THE RIGHT THING!!

QUAKE DISASTER IN CHRISTCHURCH, NEW ZEALAND

Earthquake in Christchurch, New Zealand

Tuesday, February 22, 2011

12.51 pm, MAGNITUDE 6.3

I’m looking at page A 24 of  The New Zealand Herald, Wednesday, February 23, 2011

There are four images of the quake disaster and the quote:

“The city centre is like a war zone and damage is immense.” – Mayor Bob Parker

At the bottom of the page (Left side)  I find a verse from the Bible.

TEXT FOR TODAY

“Do not be deceived. God is not mocked;  for whatever man sows, that he will also reap.” – Galatians 6:7

**************************

It comes to me only just now that “Christchurch” means the people of Christ. The building called Christ’s College is also damaged.
“The church may be defined as the communion of saints, that..” (20th Century Bible Dictionary)

“I did not SEND these Prophets,…”

We are reading in Jeremiah 23:21:

“I did not send these prophets,

yet they have run with their message;

I did not speak to them,

yet they have prophesied.”

Read also Jeremiah 14:14!

The Lord Jesus Christ says in Matthew 9:38:

“Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”

Assurance!

I am talking here about ASSURANCE OF SALVATION!

This is what a pastor of a church said long ago:

“IN MY CHURCH

SOME THINK THAT THEY ARE CHRISTIANS,

MOST OF THEM HOPE SO,

SOME SAY SO, AND

A FEW KNOW THAT THEY ARE SAVED.” – Rev. H. Hildebrand

I belong to those who know that they are saved.

Why? I read in First John 5:13 that I can know that I have eternal life. Just as I know that I am married, I know that I am saved. There is no halfway place, we are either saved or we are lost.  Salvation is a miracle change and I know that that change has taken place in  my life. If you don’t have assurance of salvation, you have a fickle life and you are not able to help others spiritually.

Do you belong to those church people who think that I have made a sacrilegious statement? Please let me know!

I possess eternal life and I am saved for time and eternity. When I die, I go straight to heaven. John 10:28,29

How does assurance come to us?

There are three main ways:

— There is the Bible.

We believe it.

— Certain tests of spiritual life in the first letter of John.

“We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren.” We are aware of the Spirit working in us. The commandments of the Lord are a delight to us.

— The witness of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 8:15-17 :  “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are children of God…”
