BODY, SOUL AND SPIRIT

BODY SOUL AND SPIRIT

Today I picked up the first edition of  Health and Herbal News for 2011. (Complimentary Copy, Vol 21 – Issue 1) On the front cover I read “Keeping kids healthy & happy” and “Go for Super health”.

It’s all about health, as the name of the magazine says, and there is no doubt that we are interested.

Some time ago I picked up a book produced by the Salvation Army called A ROAD TO RECOVEREY. It’s all about “Working for the eradication of poverty in New Zealand”.

The Bible teaches that we are a tripartite being.  We consist of three component parts: body, soul and spirit.

Our spirit gives us the ability to communicate with God. Our soul gives us the ability to be a person, a personality. Our body gives us the ability through the five senses to understand. The five senses are sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell.

WHY ARE WE SO CONCERNED ABOUT THE BODY AND WHY ARE WE FORGETTING THE SOUL AND THE SPIRIT?

The Attitude Test

THE ATTITUDE TEST

Skateboards are banned in Kaitaia’s main street. A teenager ignored the ban and lost his board. In a brief discussion he he failed the attitude test.

(The Northland Age, Tuesday, April,5, 2011)

Let me read what the Bible says about our attitude:

Ephesians 4:23 “…; to be made new in the attitude of our minds;..”

First Peter 4:1 Please read!

Philippians 2:5 Please read!

ARE WE ALSO FAILING THE ATTITUDE TEST?

PASSION FOR WORDS?

PASSION FOR WORDS?

That is the question I am asked at the end of the brochure telling me all about the AUCKLAND WRITERS & READERS FESTIVAL.

THE NEW ZEALAND HERALD , proud sponser of the Auckland Writers and Readers Festival is advertising  free home delivery and is asking the question “Passion for Words?”.  “We publish thousands every day.”

Yes, I have passion for words!

I have passion for the words written in the Bible, the Word of the Living God!

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

John 3:16

“CELEBRATING THE WRITTEN WORD”

The AUCKLAND WRITERS & READERS FESTIVAL is all about “Celebrating the Written Word”.

At the beginning of the brochure telling us all about the Festival is a word from the mayor (Len Brown with picture) and a word from the chair (Dr Sarah Sandley with picture).

“Celebrating the Written word”.

The Word of God is another title for Bible!

A word from me is: LET US CELEBRATE THE WRITTEN WORD OF GOD!

*******************************

The Bible is also called “the Scriptures” and “the Writings”.

“BIBLOS” means “a book” in the Greek language and the word “Bible” comes from the Greek word “biblos”.

Sermon Outline OT (NIV)

“For I resolved

to know nothing while

I was with you

except Jesus Christ and

him crucified.”
