“PASS YOUR KEY TO A SOBER BRO.”

“PASS YOUR KEY TO A SOBER BRO”

In our local paper I am reading about a man who was charged with driving with excess breath alcohol. And it was not the first time, but the third time. (The Northland Age, Kaitaia, Thursday, May 26, 2011)

People consume alcoholic beverages. Why? Liquor clouds the brain, makes fools out of people, makes drivers reckless and potential killers.

Why do people drink alcoholic beverages?

In his book ONE HUNDRED BIBLE LESSONS  Alban Douglas  listed 13 answers given by drinkers. (Abstinence, Not Temperance) page 256.

Let me mention a few of them.

— as an escape from problems.

— because they are disgusted with their  ordinary, mediocre life.

— Loneliness.

— “Because it’s my business to live as I please and I can drink if I want to”; this may be true, but remember Romans 14:7; our lives do effect others.

What does God say about indulgence of alcoholic beverages?

“Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging; and whoever is deceived thereby is not wise.” (Proverbs 20:1)

Read also Proverbs 23:29-35

Let me close with a quote by Shakespware about alcohol:

“ALCOHOL IS A POISON MEN TAKE INTO THE MOUTH TO STEAL AWAY THE BRAIN.”

“…trust in the Government..”

“WATCH  OUT FOR OUR LEADERS AND THEIR TALL TALES OF WAR”  is the article written by Tracey Barnett called. ( The New Zealand Herald, Friday, May 27, 2011, A15)

Underneath in smaller print I am reading “Our misplaced trust in the Government over our role in a far-off war has come back to haunt us.”

Psalm 20:7 says:

“SOME TRUST IN CHARIOTS AND SOME IN HORSES, BUT WE TRUST IN THE NAME OF THE LORD OUR GOD.”

“Young people need your time”

I cannot stop thinking about the article called “YOUNG PEOPLE NEED YOUR TIME” in our local paper, The Northland Age, Tuesday, May, 24, 2011.

What is the heart cry of the young people of this country (New Zealand) at the present time? According to the New Zealand Aotearoa Adolescent Health and Development ( NZAAHD) director Sarah Helm the cry is for more time from adults. They are crying for a closer relationship with their parents. They want a quality relationship with Mum and Dad.

I HEAR HERE A DEEPER HEART CRY. I THINK ALL OF US ARE CRYING FOR A RELATIONSHIP WITH OUR CREATOR. WE ARE CRYING FOR A RELATIONSHIP WITH OUR FATHER IN HEAVEN. DO YOU AGREE? WAIT AND SEE.

What reasons do young people give for not having the relationship they really want with their parents?  Fathers don’t care or live at another place. Parents are too busy with work. Mothers are busy with housework and looking after other children.

On top all that, we can well ask, “What happened to the family, Mum and Dad and the children?” The children are having grandparents, step parents and other adults as caregivers.

Children who have a CLOSE, A QUALITY RELATIONSHIP with their parents are really blessed says the artice. It helps the children to be healthy and well and helps to keep them out of trouble. The article says also that a quality child parent relationship reduces “suicidal tendencies, mental health problems, drug and alcohol abuse, and criminal activity”.

YOUNG PEOPLE ARE CRYING FOR A QUALITY RELATIONSHIP WITH THEIR PARENTS. THEY ARE NEEDING A CLOSE RELATIONSHIP WITH THEIR PARENTS AND LONGING FOR A CLOSE RELATIONSHIP WITH THEIR PARENTS.

THE FACT IS THAT ALL OF US ARE LONGING FOR A RELATIONSHIP WITH OUR CREATOR. WE ARE LONGING FOR A RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD.

Listen to what St Augustine said long ago: (In the year 397)

“YOU HAVE MADE US FOR YOURSELF , O LORD, AND OUR HEARTS ARE RESTLESS UNTIL THEY FIND THEIR REST IN YOU.”

Please find rest in your heavenly father and be a father to your children.

Road to Victory!

ROAD TO VICTORY

I am on the Road to Victory.

Napoleon said, “CONQUEST HAS MADE ME WHAT I AM, AND CONQUEST MUST MAINTAIN ME.”

In Acts 14:22 we are reminded to “Remain true to the faith.”

C. H. Spurgeon said, “PERSEVERANCE is the badge of true saints.”

First of all let us learn something from Job and Moses in the Old Testament:

JOB persevered. He is considered blessed because of his perseverance. Have you heard about his perseverance and what the Lord finally brought about? Read the story about Job in the Bibel (OT)!

MOSES persevered! Why?  “BECAUSE HE SAW HIM WHO IS INVISIBLE.” We must do the same. He did not fear. He left Egypt by faith.

Next let us see what is written about the church of the Thessalonians and to the saints in Rome:

The apostle Paul is boasting not only about the perseverance but also about the faith of the Thessalonians. They persevere in persecutions and trials.

To the saints in Rome Paul is writing that “we also rejoice in our sufferings”. Why? Because the  product of suffering is perseverance.

FINALLY LET US THANK THE LORD THAT HE PERSEVERED FOR US

and pray with the apostle Paul:

“May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.”
