“Die Widerspruechlichkeit von Christen, die einerseits bekennen, die Bibel zu glauben, andererseits jedoch leben, als gaebe es dieses Buch nicht, war eines der staerksten Argumente meiner unglaeubigen Mitmenschen.” – Hudson Taylor
“Sir Walter Scott, himself the author of many books and the possessor of a great library, said, ‘There is but one book, the BIBLE.'” Alban Douglas in his book ONE HUNDRED BIBLE LESSONS
Okaihau is not very far from KAIKOHE, where we used to live for a long time. We are now living in KAITAIA, and the shortest way from Auckland to KAITAIA is via OKAIHAU.
OKAIHAU
“MAORI PLACE NAME MEANING ‘FEAST OF WIND’. THIS PELTON WATER WHEEL WAS USED TO DRIVE A FLAX MILL AT PUKETI ON THE MCAULAY PROPERTY AROUND THE 1890’S. FLAX MILLING WAS A THRIVING INDUSTRY FROM 1880-1910. EUROPEAN SETTLEMENT BEGAN IN 1868 WITH THE ARRIVAL OF THE CANADIAN SETTLERS TO GROW WHEAT.
ERECTED 1991 BY THE OKAIHAU LIONS AS A MEMORIAL TO THE EARLY SETTLERS.”
The KIWI (New Zealand) eye surgeon Fred Hollows, who lived from 1929-1993 said, “I believe that the basic attribute of mankind is to look after each other.”
PHYSICAL BLINDNESS
He saw the physical blindness and did something about it!
In THE FRED HOLLOWS FOUNDATION NZ advertisement I am reading: “Globally, Foundation-trained eye doctors have restored sight to over one million people.”
SPIRITUAL BLINDNESS
Missionaries see the Spiritual Blindness and do something about it!
We are blind sinners. In his book 1000 NEW BIBLE READINGS Dr. F. E. Marsh points out that we are naturally
blind to our condition before God – Romans 3:11,
blind to the beauty of the Lord Jesus Christ – Isaiah 53:1,
blind to the grace of God – Romans 11:8,
blind to the things of the Lord – First Corinthians 2:9-14,
blind to the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ – Revelation 3:18,19,
(“I counsel you
to buy from me
gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and
white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and
salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.” – Revelation 3:18)
blind to the need of the new birth – John 3:3-7,
blind to the evil around us – Ephesians 2:2,3.
WHAT DO YOU SEE AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING ABOUT IT? I SAW THE SPIRITUAL BLINDNESS IN THE WORLD – AND STILL SEE IT – AND WENT AS A MISSIONARY TO THAILAND WHEN I WAS YOUNG!
