“We’ve got the Power!”

“There is but one power available to redeem the course of events, and that is the power of prayer by God-fearing, Christ-believing people,” says Billy Graham in his Devotional Treasury called UNTO THE HILLS.

THE POWER OF PRAYER.

How do we define prayer? Prayer is speaking with God. We have a body. We have a soul. We have a spirit.  We consist of three component parts. Prayer is the soul of man speaking with the Lord Jesus Christ.

There is one absolute essential before prayer becomes effective. What is it? We must believe in the existence of God. We must pray with faith that there is a God.  Hebrews 11:6 says:

“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”

"WE'VE GOT THE POWER"

“WE’VE GOT THE POWER!”

GOD-FEARING PEOPLE.

Have you ever tried to define “fear of the Lord?” I found this definition:

“Referential trust with a hatred of evil.” – Dr. C. I. Scofield

God requires from each one of us that we fear him. The purpose of creation is to fear God. This is what the Bible says:

“Fear the LORD your God, serve him only and take your oaths in his name.” – Deuteronomy 6:13

“Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.” – Ecclesiastes 12:13

CHRIST-BELIEVING PEOPLE.

It is always good to start with a definition. How do we define faith?

The dictionary says: Faith is loyalty to a creed or religion. Not long ago I received a “Coffee Loyalty Card”. “Every tenth cup is free,” it says on the card.

The BIBLE says:

“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” – Hebrews 11:1

My faith that saves me is a personal trust in a person. The person is the Lord Jesus Christ. Many things are happening when one believes on the Lord Jesus Christ.

Here are a few: I believe and I have access to the grace of God. I am accepted in the beloved. I am born again. I am forgiven. The Lord Jesus Christ is my advocate. I am an ambassador. As mentioned before, that are only a few things!

We’ve got power, but do we have the God-fearing, Christ-believing people?

"CATTLE ON A THOUSAND HILLS"

“CATTLE ON A THOUSAND HILLS”

“I have no need  of a bull from your stall or of goats from your pens, for every animal of the forest is mine and the cattle  on  a thousand hills. – Psalm 50: 9,10

Shoes in the BIBLE

“Upon Edom I toss my Sandal,” says David – the David who wrote Psalm 23.

Have you ever wondered what that means?

Shoes

Shoes

I found the meaning in the book STRANGE SCRIPTURES THAT PERPLEX THE WESTERN MIND by Barbara Bowen.

David says that actually twice, namely in Psalm 60:8 and Psalm 108:9, and he is talking there also about Moab and Philistia.

In the light of customs and conditions in Bible Lands, what is the meaning of “Upon Edom I toss my sandal?”

The shoe in the Bible days was considered unclean. Shoes were never worn in houses. They were left at a place near the door called mastaby. Shoes were spoken of in terms of great disrespect. Everything that was low and filthy was associated with shoes.

When David says, “Upon Edom I toss my sandal,” he says that Edom is like the place near the door, where the shoes are left, the mastaby. He degraded Edom to the highest degree.

Knowing this helps us to understand the following verses in the Bible better:

Exodus 3:5; Joshua 5:15; Amos 2:6; Amos 8:6; Isaiah 20:2 and Acts 7:33.

WELL

“One in days gone by has said,

‘I have been sinking my bucket down into the well very frequently, but now my thirst after JESUS has become so insatiable, that I long to put the well itself up to my lips, and drink from it.'” – C. H. Spurgeon

3. The benefit  I reap leads to holiness.

4. The result is that I have eternal life.

“But now you are free from the power of sin and have become slaves to God. Now you do those things that lead to holiness and result in eternal life.” – Romans 6:22 (NLT)

“ASK”

KAITAIA

KAITAIA

WE ARE ENCOURAGED TO “ASK”

“Start asking,” I am reading today on a poster on my walk in our town (Kaitaia).

Another poster says, “Ask in store for details.” At the same place a second poster says, “Ask us for more information”.

“Give the Gift of Travel with a flight Centre Gift Card.” “Ask in store for more details.” Ask us about these & more amazing Samoa deals,” advertises the local Flight Centre. And here is one more poster: “Ask about our easy payment finance options.”

Banks, where you buy tyres, Flight Centres, etc., encouraging us to ask.

The BIBLE encourages us also to ask.

In Matthew 7:7 the Lord Jesus Christ says, “‘ASK and it will be given you.'” And in James 4:2 James writes, “You do not have, because you do not ASK God.”

DO YOU BELONG TO THOSE WHO DO NOT HAVE?

Start asking! Start asking God!
