INQUIRING OF THE LORD
In THE BOOK OF BOOKS we are reading about David and Joshua. I noticed a difference between David and Joshua.
I don’t know what you know about David and I don’t know what you know about Joshua. Does Goliath come to your mind when you hear about David and does Jericho come to your mind when you hear about Joshua?
DAVID
I noticed that David inquired of the Lord. He did that not only once, but he did that twice in one chapter. Please notice that the circumstances were the same, but the answer of the Lord was different.
Please read chapter 14 in the book of the Bible called First Chronicles and compare verse 10 with verse 14.
JOSHUA
Joshua did not inquire of the Lord. Israel just did not inquire of the Lord. They just did not.
Please read chapter 9 in the book of the Bible called Joshua. It says there in verse 14: “The men of Israel …”
We can be like David or we can be like Joshua. I want to be like David!
“HOOKED ON LEARNING”
That’s what it says on the front page of the newsletter of the Mangonui School (Issue 4 3 April 2014)
“Hooked on Learning.”
I really like that. I am hooked on Learning. Who else is hooked on Learning? Or even a better question: Who is hooked on Learning the decrees and laws of the Lord? The Bible tells us to learn the decrees and laws of the Lord.
We find the Ten Commandments in Deuteronomy chapter five. There it says:
1. “You shall have not other gods before me.”
2. “You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything …”
3. “You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, …”
4. “Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, ..
5. “Honor you father and your mother, …”
6. “You shall not murder.”
7. “You shall not commit adultery.”
8. “You shall not steal.”
9. “You shall not give false testimony …”
10. “You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife …”
We must not only be hooked on Learning the decrees and laws of the Lord, but we must also be hooked on following the decrees and laws of the Lord.

FOLLOWING THE RIGHT PATH
When I saw
“The longer we follow the Right Path … the easier it becomes,”
written on a plaque in a shop at Mangonui not long ago, I copied it down.
The Bible has a lot to say about the right paths and the right ways.
The Bible has also a lot to say about the pathway of sin, the dark way.
And listen to what the Bible says in Proverbs 22:6:
“Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.”
And remember, “The longer we follow the Right Path … the easier it becomes.”
