Standing and Falling

“Stand for something,” encourages me the election flyer, I found not long ago in our letterbox. (This year is election year in New Zealand.)

I stand up for the Lord Jesus Christ as James Montgomery tells us to do in his hymn, “Stand up and bless the Lord.”

Philip P. Bliss and Lindsay Smith are the authors of the hymn, “Standing by a purpose true, Following God’s command, …” We find  the commands of God in the Bible.

Here are some of them:

“‘YOU SHALL NOT MURDER.'” – Exodus 20:13

‘”YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY.'” – Exodus 20:14

“‘YOU SHALL NOT STEAL.'” – Exodus 20:15

You find The Ten Commandments in the Old Testament in the book of Exodus at the beginning of chapter twenty.

I like to sing the hymn, “Standing on the promises of Christ my king, …” The author is R. Kelso Carter.

Here are some powerful promises from the Word of God:

“The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.” – First John 3:8

“They overcame him by the blood of the lamb and by the word of their testimony.” – Revelation 12:11

Do you know the hymn, “Stand up, stand up for Jesus! You soldiers of the cross?” The author is  George Duffield. Come on, let us do it and not only sing about it.

And let us remember, “If we don’t stand for something we’ll fall for anything!”
