DESTINY

“Someone famous once said, our destiny is not in the stars but ourselves.”

The Salvation Army in Kaitaia

In the commemorative edition of WAR CRY to mark 150 years of The Salvation Army it says about William Booth, the founder, that he found his destiny when he stepped forward to speak at an open-air meeting outside the Blind Beggar Pub in East London.

He made also up his mind that God would have all of him. That was from the day he got the poor of London on his heart and when he caught a vision of all Jesus Christ could do with them.

Our destiny is not in the stars. Our destiny is not in ourselves. Our destiny is in God.

HIS SECRET OF SUCCESS

The Salvation Army in KAITAIA

The Salvation Army in KAITAIA

“When asked for the secret of his success, William Booth said, “I will tell you the secret. God has had all there was of me. There have been men with greater brains than I, men with greater opportunities. But from the day I got the poor of London on my heart and caught a vision of all Jesus Christ could do with them, on that day I made up my mind that God would have all there is of William Booth. And if there is anything of power in the Salvation Army today, it is because God has had all the adoration of my heart, all the power of my will, and all the influence of my life.”

ELIJAH IS PRAYING

FIRE

FIRE

THE PRAYER OF ELIJAH

First Kings 18:36,37

He is praying for FIRE.

We want to notice two things in his prayer.

1.  HIS GOAL IS THE GLORY OF GOD AND THE CONVERSION OF ISRAEL.

Twice he asks God to reveal himself  as the only living God. This revelation would lead then to the conversion of Israel.

He prays: “…, let it be known today that you are God in Israel …” He prays: “…, answer me, so these people will know that you, O LORD are God, …”

We can ask the Lord for great things as long as we are only after the glory of God and the conversion of sinners. Elijah is teaching us always to start with the first petition of the Lord’s Prayer. There it says, “…, hallowed be your name …” (Matthew 6:9)

2.  HE IS PRAYING ACCORDING TO THE WILL OF GOD.

He was absolutely certain that everything he did was in harmony with the will of God. “…, let it be known today … that I am your servant and have done all these things at your command.”

FOOTSTEPS

FOOTSTEPS

We can only expect the Lord to bless us in all we do, when we are in harmony with His will. The Lord cannot bless us, when we are doing our own thing.

Let us follow the footsteps of Elijah.

Preachers and Practisers

“Preach the Gospel at all times. Use words if necessary,” is a church sign, that was used a good number of years ago somewhere.

THE LORD JESUS CHRIST MENTIONS PEOPLE WHO PUT HIS WORDS INTO PRACTICE.

What kind of people are that?

Put the word of the Lord into practice

Put the word of the Lord into practice

That are wise builders who build their houses on the rock. Rain is no problem, rising streams  are no problem and strong winds are also no problem.

THE LORD JESUS CHRIST MENTIONS ALSO PEOPLE WHO DO NOT PUT HIS WORDS INTO PRACTICE.

What kind of people are that?

That are foolish builders who build their houses on sand. Rain is a problem, rising streams are a problem and strong winds are a problem.

I want to be a wise builder. What about you?

“Good practisers are even better than good preachers,” is a sage saying.
