God Hates

“the LORD hates, … a heart that devises wicked schemes, …” – Proverbs 6:16-18

Can you remember the last time when you heard that God hates?

Many people worldwide are familiar with the verse in the Bible that begins with, “‘For God so loved the world that he gave ..'” You probably even know where to find the verse in the Bible. (It is John 3:16, for those who don’t.)

But are we also familiar with Psalm 5:5 or Malachi 2:16 or Proverbs 6:16-19?

In Psalm 5:5 it says, “thou hatest all workers of iniquity.” (Authorized Version) And in Malachi 2:16 we read, “‘I hate divorce,’ says the LORD God of Israel, …” (NIV) And Proverbs 6:16-19 says, “There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers. (NIV)

Here you even have a sermon outline with seven points.

God hates all manifestations of sin and God promises to judge sin. God does not take sin lightly.

Yes, God is love, but God also hates.
