“Great Books” is one department called in the September 2006 Reader’s Digest.

In the department “GREAT BOOKS , Spotlight On Shelf Life,” different people share ONE SPECIAL BOOK  from their bookshelves.

GLOBAL OR LOCAL ECONOMY

“The economy, global or local, is a manmade environment that is manipulated by human beings whose prime motivation is profit.”

That’s what NZ TODAY editor Allan Dick is writing in his EDITORIAL. (September/October 2010)

And in the next paragraph he continues:

“It’s not too strong to say that I despise these people. Their greed took advantage of the foolishness of people further down the food chain to create the situation that led to the recession.”

Is my prime motivation profit? Am I greedy?

What does the BIBLE, the Word of the Living God say on the subject of Profit and Greed?

PAUL TEACHES…..

…….that men have become filled with greed, that greed is improper for God’s holy people, that greed is idolatry, that the greedy will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Romans 1:29; Ephesians 5:3; Colossians 3:5; First Corinthians 6:10; Ephesians 5:5.

PETER TEACHES……..

……….that there are people who are experts in greed, that elders must not be greedy for money.

Second Peter 2:14; First Peter 5:2

THE LORD JESUS CHRIST TEACHES…..

………. that we must be on our guard against all kinds of greed.

Luke 12:15.

And in Matthew 16:26 (Authorized Version) the LORD asks:

“FOR WHAT IS A MAN PROFITED, IF HE SHALL GAIN THE WHOLE WORLD, AND LOSE HIS OWN SOUL? OR WHAT SHALL A MAN GIVE IN EXCHANGE FOR HIS SOUL?”

Is my prime motivation profit? Am I greedy?

For me the answer is clear! What is your answer?

WHAT HELPS YOU TO TRUST GOD MORE?

The Lord Jesus Christ says in John 7:17

“‘If anyone chooses to do God’s will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.'”

I think:

Choosing to do God’s will helps me to trust God more.

Is that correct?
