ONE HUNDRED BIBLE LESSONS is a book written by Alban Douglas. It is a book everybody should have. I have learnt very much by reading the book.
One Lesson is about DEATH. What I am doing now, I am doing for the first time. Each Lesson has REVIEW QUESTIONS at the end. The Lesson about DEATH has also Review Questions and I am endeavouring now to answer some of them.
I think when I have finished answering the questions we have a good idea what the BIBLE is teaching on the subject of DEATH.
DEFINE DEATH
Life is difficult to define and death is also difficult to define. Death is when the heart stops, when the breath ceases, when the body is stiff.
WHAT HAPPENS TO TRIPARTITE MAN AT DEATH?
The body goes to the grave. The spirit goes back to God. (Ecclesiastes 12:7) The soul in Luke 16:19-31 goes to one of two places: The soul of the wicked to hell, Luke 16:23. The soul of the righteous to paradise, Luke 16:22.
WHAT ARE THE TWO KINDS OF DEATH AND WHERE DID THEY ORIGINATE?
The two kinds of death are Spiritual death and Physical death and they come from the Garden of Eden.
WHAT IS THE BASIC CAUSE OF DEATH?
The basic cause of death is SIN!
WHAT IS THE CURE FOR SPIRITUAL DEATH?
Spiritual death is cured by believing on the LORD Jesus Christ.
WHY IS PSALM 23:4 SO PRECIOUS TO THE THE SERIOUSLY SICK?
Because the Lord Jesus Christ has promised to walk with his true followers through the experience of death.
WHAT IS THE CONTRAST BETWEEN PSALM 116:15, AND EZEKIEL 33:11?
The death of the righteous is precious to the Father. PARADISE!
The death of the wicked is unpleasant to God. HELL!
But that is not all what the big advertisement says. I read also:
“YOUR MORNING NEWS ON THE GO……
From next Monday your local weekday newspaper will be delivered in the morning in a compact, easy to read format, so no matter how busy you are in the …..” (The Northland Age, Thursday, April 19, 2012)
Let me tell you how I start my day:
I start my day by reading the BIBLE, the word of the Living God. Today I read the first chapter of the book 2 Kings.
I learnt that we must come with all the things that are happening to us to the Lord. Second Kings 4:3
“Do you still trust Him?” That’s how the elderly lady is greeting me when she meets me here on the main street in Kaitaia in the north of New Zealand. She asks me if I still trust in the Lord Jesus Christ.
In Psalm 22:4,5 David says, “In you our fathers put their trust; they trusted and you delivered them. They cried to you and were saved; in you they trusted and were not disappointed.”
I can also say with David that I trusted and obeyed the Lord – more than fiftythree years ago – and that I am not disappointed.
The Lord led me to a Bible school in Germany to get Bible training. That included some time in London and reaching children with the gospel, mainly in the north of Germany. There is not much spiritual life in the northern part of Germany.
WEC International is a Missionary Society. The headquarters of WEC International in Germany is near Frankfurt/Main and after staying there for some time, I was accepted to go as a missionary to Thailand. I worked in Thailand for thirteen years, married in Thailand and our two children were also born in Thailand. In Thailand we worked in two provinces namely TAK and KAMPHENGPHAT.
In 1980 we did some more training at the BCNZ (Bible College of New Zealand) in Auckland.
After that we started our Maori work at the end of 1980 (United Maori Mission – UMM) in Kaitaia, were we stayed for a short time. During the second part of 1981 we moved to Kaikohe were we continued to work as missionaries (UMM) until I retired at the end of 2004.
At the beginning of 2005 we moved to the beautiful place called KAITAIA where we are NOW!
Are you familiar with the chorus of the hymn “When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word, what a glory He sheds on our way?” This is the chorus:
“TRUST AND OBEY, FOR THERE’S NO OTHER WAY TO BE HAPPY IN JESUS BUT TO TRUST AND OBEY.”
“Wars of the future will be fought over water as they are over oil today, as the source of human survival enters the global marketplace and political arena, ” I am reading on the invitation.
WATER! Straight away the LIVING WATER comes to my mind. The BIBLE teaches about the LIVING WAER. The Lord Jesus Christ is the water of Life.
DO YOU THINK THERE WILL BE WARS OVER THE WATER OF LIFE? I don’t think so!
In the last book of the BIBLE, the book of REVELATION, we find a universal call to partake of the Water of Life. It says in Revelation 22:17 “Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life.”
And in John 7:37 it says, “On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said with a loud voice, ‘If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink.'”
Notice that the Lord Jesus Christ “stood” and “said with a loud voice”. Another translation says that He “shouted”. (NEW LIVING TRANSLATION)
