When looking at my computer screen I can see the Auckland weather. I am especially interested in the forecast. Today is Sunday and it is raining. On top of that it is almost the shortest day of the year. It is also raining coming Monday and on Tuesday.

But Wednesday shows a big SUN. Even to see the sun on the screen cheers me up tremendeously. I think we all like the sun.

But there is a time coming when we don’t need the sun any more.

We read about that time at the end of the Bible, in the book of Revelation. Revelation 21:23 says,” The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the lamb is its lamp.”

Are we looking forward to that time?

An article in the local paper– The Northland Age-12. 06. 08–caught my eye and is going around in my head. The article is called, “Moerewa–WE are the solution.”

I was especially interested in the word solution. But are we the solution? Please read on.

At the end of the article a Moerewa (The name of a place) man is mentioned who “had been to meetings where he had said the solution began with families and each had to look after their own, but now he didn’t have the faintest idea if there was a solution.”

The same man “did not expect the battle against drugs to be won, but added that if one soul was saved then a great deal of work had been done.” (I think he means a soul saved from drugs).

What a hopeless situation when we start with us, our families.

Our families must start with the Lord Jesus Christ. He is our soluition.

Not too long ago I went to a meeting listening to a man who was addicted to all kinds of drugs. He has also a beautiful singing voice and travels the world to tell people how the Lord saved him and delivered him from drugs. I have actually met him before a number of years ago.

No more potholes filled with water when it is raining. No more mud. No more dust in summer. Only concrete and the driveway is even beautiful to look at. I also would like to drive on it. I watched them making the driveway opposite our house and it is quite a procedure.

A good number of people and visitors are benefiting from the new driveway. They are having now a good foundation for their feet and cars.

Almost all of us see the necessity to have a good driveway, a good foundation to get to our houses. I hope we also see that it is absolutely necessary to have the right spiritual foundation to reach our heavenly dwelling. Please read the verse in the Bible where it talks about the real and only foundation. First Corinthians 3:11

Several families have contributed to pay for the new driveway. But when it comes to our spiritual foundation is it absolutely FREE. All we have to do is Believe!

That’s what I read this morning, when I opened an email. “FOLLOW THE LEADER.” It was written in very big letters. What an encouragement.

We read a lot about leadership. Even the motto of a local car dealership and automotive workshop goes like this, “Choice! We lead, others follow.” The motto is written over the entrance door of one of the workshops, on car wheels and on a big stand in front of the main shop entrance.

Who is our leader?

The email mentioned at the beginning was actually an encouragement to follow the Lord Jesus Christ. It is good to encourage each other again and again.

In John 10:27 the Lord Jesus Christ says:

“My sheep listen to my voice.

I know them,

and they follow me.”

Are you a sheep of the Lord?

Are you distressed?  Jeremiah 16:19

Intr. O Lord,

B. my fortress,

C. my refuge

The word sustainably came to my mind and I asked somebody, “What is the exact definition?” The reply was, “I go always to google for answers.” I said, “Google is your best friend.” I was actually quoting somebody else. The quick reply was, “No, the Lord Jesus Christ is my best friend, but I know what you mean.”

Yes, the Lord Jesus Christ is our best friend and HE has ALL the answers!

The hymn “What a friend we have in Jesus” comes also to my mind. Joseph Scriven, who wrote the poem, went through a great tragedy. On the night before Scriven’s scheduled wedding, his fiancee drowned.

In spite of the power shutdown notice from Top Energy, which stated exactly when the power would be disconnected from the premises on our street, we got caught three times.

First of all the extractor fan in our bathroom did not work, my electric shaver did not go and my wife was not able to get the car out of the garage.

We are dependant on Top Energy for our power supply and nobody has trouble acknowledging that. However, there is a bigger power supply than Top Energy, namely the Almighty God. But we are having trouble admitting that we are completely dependant on the power of God. God is the only one who is selfexistent. God is the only independant being in the universe. We are dependant beings.

When Top Energy dropped the power shutdown notice into our letterbox we should have paid better attention. The consequences for not doing so were but minor.

But when we are treating the shutdown notices from Almighty God, as written in the Bible, with contempt, we are in big trouble.

We find one shutdown notice in Hebrews 9:27. Those who are born are going to die! Another shutdown notice is recorded in the last book of the Bible. In Revelation 1:7 is written, “Look, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him…”

Let us acknowledge that we are dependant on our Creator God and accept his salvation, before we get our shutdown notice.

I saw that question in the paper. It was an advertisement. When I rang the number I got talking to the person who asked the question and was able to tell her that I get my messages from the Bible, the Word of the Living God.
