WHAT IS THE SECRET TO A GOOD MARRIAGE?

I could give you the answer now. It is only one word.

But let me tell you what I read and from what I cannot get away.

They got married on the day they met for the first time. – It was a stunt.

At the present time the couple is already happily married for ten years with three children together.

The marriage is going strong and the wife can’t understand, why people are surprised. Her own words are, “WE said this was what we were going to do.” And both, husband and wife, say,” COMMITMENT is the secret to a good marriage.”

The answer is only one word: COMMITMENT!

“NOURISH YOUR BODY WITH SLEEP”

I went to the Post Office today to buy some Christmas stamps and took the shortcut through FARMERS (store). FARMERS sells SLEEPY HEAD beds. On the mattress it also said “Nourish your body with sleep”.

It is not very likely, that we are forgetting to nourish our bodies with sleep. (However, some people go to sleep at the steering wheel) But most people are forgetting to nourish their souls. Even today I met up with people who declared quite happily, “We are atheists!”

How do we nourish our souls? We nourish our souls with the Word of the Living God. We find the Words of the Living God in the Bible.

The Lord Jesus Christ says in Matthew 4:4 “MAN DOES NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE, BUT ON EVERY WORD THAT COMES FROM THE MOUTH OF GOD.”

“A FIRM PLACE TO STAND”

Look at this timber yard. What a firm place to stand! Would you have expected a timber yard to have a floor (foundation) like that? I would not. That’s actually why I took the picture! What a joy for people to buy timber at that yard – even on a rainy day. No problem.

For some time we used to live in a house in Thailand built on stilts over water and the area in front of the house was not safe to walk on – almost!

When we bought the present dwelling the floor of the garden shed had to be replaced. It was rotting away.

ARE WE NOT ALL LOOKING FOR A FIRM PLACE TO STAND?

The psalmist (David) in the Bible says that the Lord gave him a firm place to stand. But he says more than that. Please read the beginning of Psalm 40 in the Old Testament. (Psalm 40:1-3) In verse two of of that psalm he is also talking about mud and mire. But read it for yourself!

Foundations are of uttermost importance for all of us. That’s why I love the following Bible verse so much. I have also committed the verse to memory. First Corinthians 3:11 “For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.”

The Lord Jesus Christ is the only foundation! Is HE your foundation?

“GESTORBEN”

I said to my wife, “Some time ago I sent a letter to Germany, but it came back. Two words were written on the envelope, one was ‘RETOUR’ and the other was ‘GESTORBEN’. Do you know what the meaning of ‘gestorben’ is in english?” “DEAD,” was the prompt and correct reply.

The ‘dead’ person knew where she was going.

WHERE ARE YOU GOING, WHEN YOU ARE DEAD?

“LOST YOUR IMAGES???”

Have you ever read Psalm 139 and said to somebody ,”Wow, how can I grasp that?” Read the Psalm again, especially the first five verses! I like that Psalm very much!

Verse 2: “…..,  you perceice my thoughts from afar.” Psalm 139:2

Verse 4: “Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O Lord.” Psalm 139:4

Even David says in verse 6 (Psalm 139:6) “Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.”

Not long ago I picked up a Photo Catalogue and and it cheered me up to read the following on the pages of the catalogue. What I read there helped me to understand the Bible even better, especially also Psalm 139.

The whole focus in the catalogue before me is on past memories, preserving them and treasuring them.

We can protect our most precious memories with the “Kodak Express Memory Scan Service.” There are also “Kodak Preservation Discs” and we can “preserve our memories for 300 years in GOLD.”

But that last advert took my attention immediately.

“LOST YOUR IMAGES???”

We are told not to panic, bcause we are in the hands of image experts. If we have lost images for one reason or another, image recovery can be provided.
