“your church congregation”

“DID YOU KNOW?”

“Most people in your church congregation own a Bible, but not many of them may actually use it.”

I read that in the “WarCry”, the magazine of the Salvation Army. (18. 07. 2009)

On the same page is also an article by Commissioner Don Bell, in which he says: “The Bible is one of the keys to spiritual growth and vitality.”

FUEL TIME

I am not a vintage aircraft fan at all, but when a World War II flying boat arrived at the Kaitaia airport I went to see it. Unfortunately it was off to the nearby refuelling station when we arrived. Therefore my picture taking was not all that successful.

That was yesterday. Today I was again reminded of refuelling when I saw the big sign at the Abundant Life Centre. Right at the bottom you can read “FUEL TIME”.P1070635

Fuel is “something that nourishes or builds up emotion, action etc.” That’s what the dictionary says.

Just as the World War II flying boat needs to be supplied with fuel in order to fly, disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ need also nourishment regularly in order to function properly.

There is a Bible College in Germany where the students have the socalled QUIET TIME in the morning and in the evening. They also have to keep a record of their QUIET TIME. I know, I went to that College. And I am glad, I did!

THE QUIET TIME is Fuel Time!

A lot can be said about the QUIET TIME.

I found this in the book by Alban Douglas : “One Hundred Bible Lessons – The Quiet Time”: “D. E. Hoste said that they never knew which candidates that arrived on the Mission field would do well in years to come, for it all depended on how well they guarded their QUIET TIME.”

SOCIAL WORK

“Our social operations are the natural outcome of  Salvationism, or I might say, of  Christianity as instituted, described, proclaimed and exemplified in the life, teaching and sacrifice of Christ.

Social work, in the spirit and practice which it has assumed with us, has harmonised with my own personal idea of true religion from the hour I promised obedience to the command of  God.”

William Booth

PEACE

“We look forward to the time when the power to love will replace the love of power. Then will our world know the blessings of peace.”

William Ellery Channing

Reconciliation

“Reconciliation should be accompanied by justice, otherwise it will not last. While we all hope for peace it shouldn’t be peace at any cost but peace based on principle, on justice.”

Corazon Aquino
