Looking around these days I am reading quite a bit about essentials.
The meaning of essential is: vitally important and absulutely necessary. That’s what the The Collins Concise Dictionary says.
So we better take heed!
At the top of the Paperplus June 2011 mailer I read “My stationary essentials.” On the same page it says also “Look out for my hot basics stationary deals. Great prices on everyday essentials.”
Are you listening?
There is a picture of a pharmacy in The New Zealand Herald Property Report (Monday, June 6, 2011). The pharmacy advertises in big letters “SKIN ESSENTIALS.” You cannot miss the letters almost in the middle of the image.
Are you listening?
In a very old book (1925) called 1000 New Bible Readings the author F. E. Marsh has a sermon outline called “ESSENTIALS FOR THE LORD’S WORK.”
The Lift-Out (magazine) called CULTURE Your Arts & Entertainment Lift-Out (Sunday Star Times, June 5, 2011) has on page three a number of questions. There is a picture of Sarah Tetro and she is answering seven questions.
I am very much interested in question number three.
The question is:
Which book could you read over and over again, and why?
What a good question! What would YOU answer?
Let me give you my answer to that question:
The book I could read over and over again is the BIBLE. In fact I have read the Bible already several times from the beginning to the end, from the book of Genesis to the book of Revelation, every word.
Why could I read the Bible over and over again?
The BIBLE is not like any other book on the book shelf for me. The Bible is alive for me. The BIBLE became alive for me when I came from death to life, from darkness to light.
The BIBLE is food for me.
In Matthew 4:4 the Lord Jesus Christ says:
“‘PEOPLE DO NOT LIVE BY BREAD ALONE, BUT BY EVERY WORD THAT COMES FROM THE MOUTH OF GOD.'”
The 6th annual NZ Forum on the Family will be held at Life Convention Centre, 110 Montgomerie Rd, Airport Oaks, (2 mins from Auckland Airport) on Friday 8th July, 2011, 8.45am – 4.30pm.
The NZ Baptist, June 2011, has a full page adertisement saying:
Today I am reading again about education. And it is not the first time that I am given the impression that education is the answer.
Don’t get me wrong, I am all for education!
What is the foundation of great futures? Today I am reading that it is education. How will we own our future? Today I am reading that we will own our future through education.
Long ago I came across the following quote by Theodore Rooseveld. He said, “When you educate a man in mind and not in morals, you educate a menace to society.” The quote is alreaday on this blog.
Is education the foundation of great Futures?
The BIBLE, the Word of the Living God says this:
“For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.” – First Corinthians 3:11
