Reader’s Digest spoke with Nelson Mandela in 2005 and one of the questions RD asked was this:
“You were raised in a Methodist Church as a young man. Has religion played an important role in your life?”
Surely I am interested in questions like that.
I was raised as a young man in the Protestant Church (Evangelical Church) in Germany and I am wondering how I would answer that question.
Here is my answer:
RELIGION has not played an important role in my life, but the Lord Jesus Christ has. When I became a true follower of the Lord Jesus Christ my life changed.
All of a sudden I understood the BIBLE, I left my job, went to Bible school, went to Thailand as a missionary …
Please read THE GREAT COMMISSION in the Gospel of Matthew (Matthew 28:16-20).

“Could this be the key to … Being happy?” is one of the five questions on page 107 in the August 2013 New Zealand Reader’s Digest. I came across that question yesterday in the evening.

LOOKING FOR THE KEY
“SPIRITUAL DEPRESSION” by D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones is “Selected as one of the significant contemporary Christian books” and this is what I read in the book yesterday in the afternoon:
“SEEK FOR HAPPINESS AND YOU WILL NEVER FIND IT, SEEK RIGHTEOUSNESS AND YOU WILL DISCOVER YOU ARE HAPPY – IT WILL BE THERE WITHOUT YOUR KNOWING IT, WITHOUT YOUR SEEKING IT.”
I believe what I read in the book “Spiritual Depression” in the afternoon is the key to being happy.
